WebUI Shenanigans

Somehow I lost my wireless pendant? I’m so confused. I had just refactored the code using AI to clean it up and structure it better. Anyway I had the other parts except the screen so it looks like I’m building a new one. I also started messing with the 7 inch screen I bought a couple months ago.

You’ll find it after you build the new one, and when you are looking for something else that you also wont find  That’s how everything is for me anyways.

That’s also how I often end up with at least two of the same thing.

When dad was still alive we always joked about drill bit sets. Buy one in the plastic container, next time you need a bit you either couldn’t find the container or the bit you needed was gone. Go get another one and as soon as you open it and use the bit you’ll find the one that you needed from the original kit :man_facepalming:

Very interested to see where this goes. I picked up one of those screens (well, the bare one not with the case it looks like yours has) to experiment with myself. But so far I’ve had no luck getting through any of the tutorials. Haven’t even got to the point of writing any code since I can’t get the required libraries sorted out since the tutorials seemed to be out of date :frowning:

But, I also haven’t had much time to mess with it. Only spent a few lunch breaks and one evening before deciding to come back when I had a fresh head and more time…as if that’s going to actually happen

Yea, that’s where I am too. I’m still trying to get this going in platformio with LVGL 9. The sample project references old versions of things and I don’t want to start there if I don’t have to.

Well, I guess I feel better about not just being me then

If I make any progress I’ll share - but I have a feeling you’ll figure it out before me since it’s going to be 2-3 week before I even have a chance to look at it again.

I’ve got it displaying things, working on the touch part now.

There’s a FluidNC pendant in the works over on the Discord using this display but it seems they were having issues too. I mostly just want to play with LVGL. I’m not sure anything useful is going to come from me out of this.

I think they were having issues because they chose a different route.

I thought they went away from LVGL

Maybe it was LVGL bindings to Micropython or something like that??

This was the last relevant comment:

The latest LVGL+ microPython breaks the initializing of the touch.

He later handed it off to someone else, and that guy hasn’t done anything in a while.

I think Mitch lost interest when people started bugging him before it was even close to releasing

Yea, I think they don’t want to deal with pendants anymore. There was last activity about 2 weeks ago. We’ll see but I’m not holding my breath.

The last interaction I had in a nutshell was they want folks to post documentation and implementation details.

My take is that it’s just an overwhelming amount of time sink, and the overwhelming majority of folks generating that time sink have never and will never contribute anything.

I completely understand why they don’t want to get embroiled in supporting something that provides nothing of benefit to -them-.

It’s because everyone wants the cheapest thing possible for them.

He went through the trouble of making a screen, and immediately everyone started asking for changes or supporting different screens that were $3 cheaper or whatever.

It’s just not worth it. People are never happy with what you give them

you lost this? O.k. You might be my brother, LOL.

well crap that did not work, tried just the pic, got the whole thread.

I know! It’s not that small. I know I’ve had it a couple places but it’s crazy that I lost it.

I’m not sure where to direct my hatred. Some at AI which is helpful until it starts going in circles, some at LVGL and that stupid lv_conf.h file, and some at Elecrow for old examples.

After a bunch of nonsense, I think I’m at a point where I can try and do something.

Hmm, so LVGL is pretty interesting. It does a ton of stuff for you that I was doing manually with my pendant. So, I’m messing with making a wireless FluidNC pendant out of the 7 inch screen. No promises but certainly a chunk of work I did for the other one would translate here. The one being worked on in the FluidNC discord has a design based around the WebUI tablet extension, which isn’t my favorite. Figuring out what it should look like is hard.

This doesn’t actually do anything but just messing around.
