Status on Lowrider 4

I was able to grab a NIB Kobalt on ebay for $50 + $15 to ship to NJ… certainly worth the savings @ $65. I’d check ebay first. (Note: it was listed for $69 so I tossed it into my watch list, within 2 days the seller sent me an offer for $50. Worth a look and try) Worst case the Makita is widely available.

I was just about to post… I have new filament that was delivered today and a weekend that needs something to keep me away from finishing the siding on my addition

If I’m running walnut hardwood at 25mm/s, DOC at bit diameter, should I consider it? How far do you think I could push the hardwoods?

Also consider plywood to be in that category because of the glue, so that’s a consideration.

Did you see improvements in your vcarve inlays?

Thanks

Depends. With a 3mm endmill I think those values are good, with a 6mm endmill I already did 2000mm/min 6mm DOC on the LR3, but with a bigger finishing pass to deal with the inaccuracies.

With the LR4 I cut plywood at 3500mm/min but had to tune it down because my X lost steps, went with a “conservative” 2400mm/min at 6mm DOC. That also was with the RC1, the RC2/3 are a bit more stable yet again.

My inlays were pretty good, you can see it in my Star Wars coasters which turned out pretty good. I ran the carve at 2000mm/min in X/Y/Z (had one Z drop, I didn’t figure out what it was, it was similar to my losing X steps in the cuts for the box). The one that was messed up was human error.

Nice. I think that kinda settles it for me.

Those coasters are pristine! Great work

What is rc2/3?

Once I get through this job and a couple other carves, I might upgrade to the LR4.

Thanks philipp

Different beta versions. We are on the 4th one now. You gotta hang out enough to get into the lounge section!

The release candidates 2 and 3. Ryan made a few different versions before we were all happy.

You are welcome!

Damn, this time Jonathan was faster…

/edit: We are on the fourth???

I guess it’s like in math/science, you have to count “zero” too.

Just a note for folks. I’ve reviewed the requirements for the trust level needed for the lounge. I hang out and read a lot, but posting I’m sure would help. But I think the main obstacle for me is that I’m most interested in LowRider, so I don’t visit the other subs often enough, and certainly don’t participate on machines for which I’m not qualified to have any opinion. ( :rofl:Well, I’m not qualified on LR either, so I’m not sure why it stops me on the other subs.)

My plan is to build a ZenXY at my next opportunity, so I’m thinking having more machines (and more opinions of course!) would help with qualifying for lounge.
