Kobalt router

Here is a mount for it and the Lowrider, I need to do some test fits on the MPCNC Mount.

FWIW, all I did was remix the Primo mount from thw mesh, extrapolating the 65mm circle from the inside, and extending it to 65.75mm and “cutting” the larger circle. It worked fine, and I heard no complaints when I sent the file on. (Actually trammed better than the Makita did on mine.)

They have six at my location.

And here is the back side:

Did they sell you one or are they making you wait?

Sweet, no collisions? Share it and I will add it to the printable list. Can I offer it for sale with the MPCNC printed parts kits?

You must be in the woodworkers meca! Online does your store show a bunch on hand or maybe they will get distributed to other stores or something?

Edit: Do Not Use! Dunno why this ever worked…

I have no objections. It was a really minimal remix.

So as mentioned before, entirely based on the Makita mounts for the Primo, just “bored” to 65.75mm diameter.

Dan, thank you for sharing your mount.

@Kobalt people, if you’re listening, can we share pics of your nice new router yet?

If so, @SupraGuy are you able to share pic(s) showing height and orientation that’s working for your setup?

Thanks.

That is what I did as well I thought but I screwed something up.

My machines are in no fit state for pictures right now, and I have the Z axis of the Primo ripped apart, because I want to re-do the Z tubes. When I drilled the holes for the mount screws before I did a messy job, so I want to re-do them and just tap the M5 threads into the steel. I pretty much just jammed in the Kobalt int he same orientation that the Makita was in… or maybe it was 180° around. I don’t remember because I have a switch on the AC power… Probably was the same though because I didn’t have trouble with the drag chain orientation.

You probably started from source CAD. I had to start from the mesh, so there was actually less possibility of screwing anything up, because absolutely nothing else got recalculated.

This does mean that the thickness of the mount is 0.375mm thinner, (Approximately 1 wall with a 0.4mm nozzle) but the same number of walls, and I figure pretty close to the same result. No differences that I noted in end result anyway. The outside edge of the mount (and associated screw holes etc) are unchanged, so everything printed great for me.

Some observed RPM speeds (no load) incase anyone’s curious. Included values for each ident (1/2 value), each indent goes up/down ~2000 RPM.

Dial settings 1 to 5 seem to reasonably match advertised speeds (see pg9 in the manual). Was hoping RPMs would be lower than advertised, given we want to cut heat extracting chips, and not over heat/wear bit creating fine dust.

Edit: Video, used $30 tachometer…

That is insane. How can it achieve that! So close to advertised!!!

And it has a 5 year warrty??

Right, 5 warranty seems like a bold move to me. I paid > $20 to extend my Makita from 1yr to 3yr.

Brushed motor in the Router based on the Lowes product description. No idea if replacement brushes are covered by the Kobalt warranty, didn’t smell like it based on my reading of their manual?

Edited my post to include video footage for anyone curious

With a 5 year warrty that would be foolish not too. I would take it back saying it does not work if so!

Oh i am sorry. I did not mean to question your results! i truly meant how can they do that! Crazy what can be done anymore.

I played it “safe”, and added the 3 year extended for around 11.00. Being slightly pessimistic or cautious (take your pick), I’m sure over time I will learn what it doesn’t cover, but for now it seems like a win for 10 and some change. 9+ was the two year, making the 3 year seem like a steal.

I’m assuming with a picture of the LR on the box, I can’t be accused of using it other than intended. So far I’m pleased. Going to cut a circle in HDPE tomorrow, and weight options moving forward.

Yes, this one it’s nice, but in eu we need 220v🥲

In Aus, most Ryobi products have a 5 year warranty - 3 out of the box and 2 more if you register with Ryobi online. That’s a very cool system because they know what you are buying, but the quid pro quo is that they have your warranty details online, so a replacement at one of our big box stores is a doddle.

Yeah, we noticed when I was volunteering for tests as well. Bummer. I would have bought an inverter just to try it, but the company refused to send a router to the EU. I can understand it though, I am not living in their market.
