there is a full keyboard binding built in.
you can use a bluetooth keyboard with your phone and have a “pendant” that way.
That requires having the WebUI up on the device. If your screen turns off, that stops working.
AP vs STA from perspective of a newbie to cnc, but techy person. I’d hate to be in AP mode because whenever I stumble on a problem I look for solutions in the net. So I’d have to switch networks all the time or have two devices with me. That’s not for me ![]()
Just my opinion.
Yeah, 95% of the time, I’m jogging via BT keyboard attached to tablet (could be ‘attached’ to phone though). Agree that pressing buttons on a phone screen without looking isn’t possible/easy. Tactile phone/tablet screens would be neat, hopefully some day. For now, would need a TPU overlay (web parametric customizer for diff phone screen sizes), or just use keyboard/game-controller…
So anyway, about that Jackpot V2?
not sure there is a need. If people want a wired controller and not to mess with wifi, maybe go back to marlin, or grblhal
I use the WIFI for sure! Just because I also use a pendant doesn’t mean I don’t want the WIFI. No WIFI to transfer files then count me out ![]()
I mean for $24, 7 Inch HMI Touch Display - 800x480 LCD for ESP32/Arduino/LVGL the 7" seems ideal.
It seems they might still be using it as a wired pendant though?? the thread is stale.
I want to ask the status, but I don’t want to get yelled at ![]()
Amazon.com. I have this but not installed yet. ![]()
I personally don’t like the idea of a wired controller. If you mount it on the beam, if you need to do something during a job, you’ve got a moving target. Otherwise, you have to run a wire that handles full motion of the machine.
I thought the main point of the Jackpot V2 was to simplify parts? So you didn’t have to separately source the ESP32 and drivers? If there are minor improvements to throw in while you’re at it, cool. I’m happy with the Jackpot as is but if this makes it easier for you, I’m all for it.
Lets put this in another viewpoint.
I am responsible for getting people to the first cut…after they have built a machine by hand.
I am asking them to turn it on, open their phone, click on fluidnc, password 12345678, run the test crown.
How I tell people to use the machine is the way I HAVE to support. Like I said after that I don’t care what they do, I don’t have to support that. If you have not noticed if there is a connection issue I only help if they go back to AP mode.
How would you tell people to use the machine if you were me?
Would you honestly tell them to open fluidnc, input the wifi info for thier house, install bonjour, save, reboot, log into the board again then start the test crown???
I am not disabling sta mode or not adding the module port on my board to stop people from using the pendant, I am trying to provide a yellow brick road for the new user. I NEVER tell them to connect to thier own network I always say use the sd card. I always push the yellow brick road that is in my mind.
Yes you need to support what works and if there are deviation hopefully we can help but your support has to have limits or nothing get resolved…
I will be making the pcb antenna the defualt option, I might offer an external antenna version.
I have offered the external antenna verion for the Jackpot one since day one, I bought ten of them, I still have 4 left. I have sold ~1500 or so jackpots from here, I really don’t think the external antenna is as big of a deal as it seems to some of you. I think 1496 people just want to use a CNC machine and did not once consider how it is actually ran, they just trusted that we have taken care of all that.
Did we?
I mean your data just gave you the answer. Just do the pcb antenna.
and then take the effort you would put into managing an external antenna and make a pendant solution ![]()
But would they complain if I made a “better” external version?
I am so lost at what to do here. I only know how I use it…I also know it is irritating to try and connect sometimes. I also know last time I used STA mode I lost the IP for some reason and there is so many dam devices on my network I had to reflash to get back to AP mode.
Let me refine this.
I have been irritated that I can not use the googler to figure something out while I am using my CNC actively.
I have lost my CNC on the network for no good reason. in STA mode
.local does not seem to work for me?
The pendant is awesome to use, I used Jims at RMRRF.
Wireless file transfer would be nice, I have a very good connection to all my devices, even my zen. I still just use the memory card, I have several. I have never really been bothered by it.
I understand all the perspectives. What will I officially support, and how much will I ask the end user to spend? Making two boards is wasteful and honestly more of a hassle than it seems on paper.
I think you answered it right here. Most of the time when people have connection issues it seems to be because of wires running on top of the ESP32. If they have connection issues for STA mode then they need to beef up their WIFI network. Just my .02

I feel like the external antenna only might help a little bit. As in not really worth the hassle. Like you said, if you can’t connect your Wi-Fi is a large part of that. The antenna hanging off should already help the signal, how much will the external really help? I mean it lets you move it 4" further…on the LR4 where is that really going to be, up on the hose holder?
