10 Years of V1!

Here’s my entry:

Also, I just sold my first skateboard wall mount on this very day, the very first legal sale of my business, with an invoice and everything, so it’s a day to celebrate for me as well. :tada:

Well, I tried

But…between my own mistakes and 9 years of use/abuse/neglect in my shop…it’s going to take a bit more effort than I anticipated to cut the strut plates for my new LR4 with my old original MPCNC.

My big mistakes - 1, I forgot to use helical drill for my holes so they’re undersized. And I made a very poor font choice for the engraving. I was also way more conservative than necessary on the depth of cut for this MDF.

But…the bigger issue was just as the first plate was about to finish on it’s last pass - the mount on my old machine failed catastrophically and the the router suddenly dropped. Took me a bit to figure out what had happened…it started cutting rough and I first assumed it was just because it had cut through the workpiece and was now hitting my table (I didn’t bother with a proper spoil board as this was meant to be the last cut on this table.) The cut had been uneven - I knew this was pushing the limits of this machine and it always had an uneven Z across this large of an area - on my first pass some parts were the expected 1mm deep - other spots it barely scratched the surface. The machine has always had a high spot there that I’ve never worked out:

My first thought was my 3D printed coupler on the Z failed…or the old hicwic quick change failed…or the Z screw stripped out after 9 years of use…

But then I noticed what actually happened:

Wonder if I can still find the files for this mount after 9 years

And The machine is at my old house - 15 minutes away from my computer and 3D printer. Heck, I don’t even have the right wrench at the old house to swap this if I did have a way to make new parts right now.

So back home. Will try to make new mounts and cut this again tonight…but doubt I’ll have time until tomorrow. So this is as close as I can get on the anniversary.

Maybe I at least get points for trying on what may be the oldest machine to try

Well, it’s a day late and despite 3 tries still not what I had hoped for…but…

And…it fits!

Gory details about why it took 3 tries will follow in my LR4 upgrade thread
