Also there are quite a few overhangs on those parts that overhang in an arc. Does it still work printing without supports?
Looks like the logo’s have all moved a bit, I have to take another look. I keep messing with the parameters and trying to make sure nothing breaks on size adjustment.
There is one in the CAD, sorta. It is easy to just screw it to the table. This is the part that is hard about a zen build they are all very different. In my big one I have most of the stuff on the leg not the table.
The only part I am still having any printing issues is the small back corners. There is a funky overhang, I just need to get rid of it I think.
Mine look fine, as far as I remember, I will look tomorrow a little closer.
Jeez, I can’t help myself. 0.5mm here and there. Once you have a full CAD assembly, I just can’t help but keep messing with things.
I Thiiiiink I am done with them now. I need to export, orient, and resave all the parts again. If you already printed them, you are fine, if not…I have a new set coming, then a proper release.
Onshape is not twisting the belts right, but they are close enough for a set of instructions.
No worries, no pressure! I created and shared the OpenScad based ZenXY “fan art” partly out of curiosity of what’s possible (for me) with AI, inspired by Jamie’s recent experiments. Agentic coding (professional sounding name for vibe coding, but with a clue) is f’n wild, have my own Premiere replacement at this point.
All my codebase are belong to LLM
Am happy to try and keep “my” virtual ZenXY machine assembly/showcase/customizer up to speed with your final, final official design when ever you’re ready. Ideally, I’ll automate part/assembly update ingestion…
Don’t known if you noticed, but in exploded view part info links to your V1E shop, hope that helps. Thinking of integrating my usual build montage when I get around to printing and building. Full options easier to see on desktop browser.
It is extremely crazy for me to see that stuff from you guys. It is progressing so fast it makes me wonder if putting in effort now is even worth it. Or should I just wait until it slows down…or gets even better/easier?
short: keep making cool ![]()
long:
. There’s a lot of AI hype for sure, especially by AI tech bros and VCs trying/praying to turn their epic COGS hemorrhaging into epic exits.
Rate of stuff changing blows my mind again and again. Unique moment to be alive. I’m grateful, and frequently
my pants. This roller coaster we’re all riding (involuntary to varying degrees depending on our vocation) can be stimulating and/or exhausting depending on how you’re wired, and stretched by competing priorities imo.
Existential dread is a major factor that’s driving me to trying to keep up with this stuff.
There will always be value in an engineer’s judgement.
Every day I see wild improvements and also wild failures. I saw someone do in a day today what would have been a three month project last year. I’ve also seen an entire development branch reverted because it was garbage.
Knowing the difference and how to get results from the tools is always the key.
I have also seen work halted on one project because token costs are going up to something more appropriate to the underlying costs.
, finding myself spending a lot of time ROI maxxing (minimizing tokens used for desired high quality output). Some days, feels like I’m spending more time optimizing my harness/execution/validation tooling more than building the thing(s). I’m probably doing things wrong, and definitely suboptimally, always trying to learn from others.
I’m working on an app outside of the CNC realm right now, and it is wild how much it has improved. For coding, I still like Claude and have been happy with Sonnet 5 from a cost/performance balance. I have found that ChatGPT is much better for visual things. So, right now I have a $20 subscription to each. When I run out of tokens, I stop. I stopped using Github Copilot once they switched to direct API costs. It seems cheaper to have direct subscriptions? I’ve been using Claude Code in VS Code and am happy with that. I like that I can setup remote control so I can control what it’s doing on my computer remotely from my phone.
I’ve also noticed that it no longer tells me how awesome I am.
I still can’t use it for work, especially if it involves sharing any code or data. I get it given the nature of the industry I’m in but it’s really frustrating. They are working on it and I’m signed up for a pilot program.
. Greatly appreciate msft Customers that have paid for much of the food, shelter, clothing and CNCs I have.
I keep (constructively) ribbing the github copilot PM and Devs about their billing model…

Agree, remote claude via mobile is awesome. Has been super productive being able to zone out from real spousal connection, and while in bed, sneakily kick off multi hour ~10k line project conversion from js to ts. I get this is a joy that most people won’t appreciate.
Yea, I think Claude’s 5 hour and 1 week reset cycles help you to manage your tokens better. I like ChatGPT Codex as well. Although, that has a 1 week reset cycle that I can burn up in a couple days. Being forced to take a break is probably a good thing. It can be a bit addicting.
I wish it was only dread-,I am terrified!
I feel as though I am on a speeding train while the driver is teaching himself as it goes along . I just hope he finds the chapter on brakes before we get to the station!
I haven’t started yet, waiting for the new files then. ![]()
Okay I am sorry, I know this is taking forever.
I have a whole new set of parts, I have been slowly rebuilding the open sauce beta build. So far so good. I found one minor printability tweak.
I have a good excuse. I have been brought into an outside company’s project and I am very excited to be a part of it. When this is done I am pretty sure a lot of you will be excited to be a part of this as well. My hectic part of this is nearly done and it will go into beta testing/builds soon I think. That puts me right back onto the Zen. Then I we get get to share this project with everyone very very soon.
Sounds exciting! Will there be zen v3 kits in the shop?
Yeah, I have 4 sets of parts on hand right now.
Honestly @vicious1, I think you need to apologize for being sorry
I think most/all of us support you taking whatever time you need for projects like this. We greatly appreciate the many hats you’re wearing/juggling.
Congratulations! Sounds exciting ![]()

I think you are all going to be excited for this one…
