Vertical lowrider cnc v4 60-85 angle

Yea from everything I’ve seen the Maslow is mixed at best or the makerm2

I would prefer a gantry cnc

How sure are you that you will need to change the gantry motor as from what I’ve seen it might be able to take the weight

If anyone wants to test it quickly with tipping the head on its side and seeing if it can lift its self or even weight test it

It would be greatly appreciated

You can build a rotating table for storage when the machine is not in use. There are 1 or 2 around here. But even for a more rigid cnc, moving in a 60/90 degrees is difficult, it involves a constant force spring like vertical saws do i’ve veen exploring the topic for some time now and it’s not working without a significant invesment on your part.

Counter weights attached to belts/steel-cable have been suggested before to help balance out load on the X motor for a tilted gantry.

But, without capturing the gantry (and then dealing with change in constraints/forces that are beyond me…), I’m not clear how you ensure router has enough force to push router bit (of regular sharpness…) into stock material.

A neat vertical or near vertical solution would open up some portability and on jobsite scenarios, in addition to storage convenience.

I was thinking of using a counter weight yet I think on acceleration and deceleration it will limit its speed

I do expect I would have to work out the first issue of making it so it keeps its self on the rails

Possibly building something like that

Only issue I find like you say maybe rigidity

I’ve had a look at these and a few others it’s cool to see what others have tried and done

SBRs are widely used in linear motion. I even know of a relatively easily way to attach SBRs to the LR4 YZ plates. But if you do that, you start getting janky compromises in where the belts are positioned and held and the resulting lever arms. To fix issues like that, you’re now redesigning things away from the LowRider layout. You also get situations where by having constrained rails the alignment needs to be really good or you introduce binding. LowRider only having one rail for Y axis is really brialliant that way and it’s one of the things that makes the machine so forgiving of first-time, amateur builders. You’re not the first person to think about this type of mod or discuss it. Those are interesting though experiments to conduct.

So, if you’re going to use SBR rails, USE SBRs for the whole machine. Or, you could use MGNs. Or several other linear rail systems.

By the time you’ve designed all of those in, it’s got very little commonality with a LowRider, and it will now cost much more money to build.

The X axis is the least powerful axis on a LowRider. Y has dual motors, and Z has screws and dual motors.

Ryan has released the design of the LowRider for the commuity to build and modify as it feels fit. He doesn’t have a license that requires you to pay him anything to build one. The limitation is you can’t sell parts or machines without getting a license from him to do so. It’s really, really cool that way. He makes his living selling parts kits and supplies in the v1e.com store. You can completely self-source or modify it on your own and even use these forums share back details about what you did. We look on with interest.

We do get grumpy if someone builds a janky mod and then bad mouths the design. The design is brilliant. We also get happy when someone does something really cool with a revision/mod or derivative.
