The 'Black and Blue' LR3 build

That the machine isn’t falling apart is a mystery…

Oh, and definitely LR4.

1/8” compression bit from spetool. 1” long.

Think I’m doing 25mm/s at 1/8” doc. All in, each board takes 11 minutes.

When I tried it with a 1/4” clearance toolpath, and profile, and doing a 1/8 cleanup for the inner corners- it was taking 23 minutes each with the tool changes.

Any guesses on how long an IDEX dual core LR4 setup would take (no tool change)?

Sorry your Core split :poop:.

Personally appreciate being able to see where/how the Core splits. Used 0.6mm nozzle, 0.32mm layer height, 3 walls and 35%+ infill, regular PLA color (not Silky or Matte)?

It’s blue silk…

I made it way before I knew that silk is a little less ideal, and plan to use solid regular PLA for the LR4. The replacement core is in regular gray PLA

Core replacement went smoothly, other than I misplaced my soldering kit during the clean up so I had to wait for solder. It arrived this morning and I got it all sorted out.

Very much improved, able to add 30% on to the speed and got nice clean straight lines.

New core- note how straight the walls of the cells are

Old core- note the wobbles in the walls that required chisel clean up, adding hours per batch.

Looks like a major time save replacing that core!

Nice!

For older cuts with old Core…

Using 5% finish pass?

just saw this: no, but will add that going forward

for what its worth- i finished the Award order, 65 units for the final tally. I have an inquiry asking if they want a repeat order, but while i wait for the answer, i think this is a good opportunity to either improve my workholding (currently through screw, which is a pain), upgrade to the LR4, or both…

HOWEVER- that may all go to the wayside because I stupidly brought my wallet to the on-water Boat Show at Lake Lanier and ended up picking up a 2025 Starcraft 23cx pontoon… as you do

partly because we’ve been dreaming of a boat for 12 years, and the time is right, but also because im hitting a bit of a crappy patch in family and friends health/ relationships and needed a boost

Thinking i might start the LR4 print process

I bought a FF AD5 totally on the basis of @DougJoseph reviews, and its been great.

Should I go ahead and buy the calilantern stl for the skew calculations, or can I print a couple of the smaller interlocking parts to check for fitment?

I bought one also. I’ve installed the Klipper mod, ran the OrcaSlicer 2.3 calibration tests. I made adjustments to the OrcaSlicer settings and printed the LR4 parts. They all turned out great. Everything went together very well.

so just doing the orcaslicer calibrations was enough?

if so- thats great. Ill rerun them to make sure things are where they were in January and get cracking

thanks

I also did the Mesh bed leveling in Klipper.

is that the regular bed levelling sequence to get the profile and then use that profile? it samples like 12 points on the bed, or is this more data points?

It’s one of the Macros:

Then go to Tuning and activate it.

its the start of a 14 year plan

every few years or so, me and the iwfe get into a nice long discussion about our goals for the family over the next 5-10 years. We had a recent vacation to Myrtle beach that was less vacation, and more like raising kids without any of our usual home comforts, adding in tropical storms and waves to boot.

so, when we got back, we foisted them on the grand parents and took off for a couple days just us, and had the opportunity to actually talk

so i let her in on my dream retirement plan and she was 100% all in on board.

When the boy - now 4- goes to college, we are cashing in some of our retirement and buying a sailing catamaran and will be island hopping until one of the kids starts a family, and draws us back. in the mean time, as much boat and water living as we can do, im going to learn how to sail like a pirate, and we are massively downsizing our clutter and frivolties.

so yeah, a pontoon was inevitable. we found a marina with a slip 10 minutes from the kids school, so evenings and dinners on the water during the school week are expected. making memories for the kids
