I really, REALLY appreciate that. Thank you!
Hey guys
Having a little issue with the Lowrider 3 stopping mid cut.
Im batching out these awards, and im doing sets of 4. Doing set 3 (boards 9-12) and the LR3 has just stopped dead twice now. Nothing damaged, just stops. The web interface is responding, i can control the LR3 - raise Z, move to X0 Y0 etc, and restart, but then stop after a few minutes.
SD card isnt falling out- its still readable on the interface.
Power connection is fine, No crazy noises or anything.
I took an IR thermometer to the motors and they are in the 98-104 oF range. After sitting ON, but not moving, the temps dropped to around 95-98. is this considered high and would it cause a stop?
I really don’t want to power off, as I have the origin zeroed out and Im literally half way through a profile cut. Unless there is a way to figure out the absolute coordinates compared to the end stops, despite having set G92 for my Origin (if that makes sense.) but I assume G92 resets the coordinates to whatever I tell it and overwrites that info.
Any advice/ help appreciated.
I also noticed some oscillation in my left side belt, and found that my front bracket is splitting. I superglued it and hope itll make it though the day and ill print another tonight.
Ill need to give the whole thing a check over, hopefully the core etc are still in good shape.
Thanks!
Jackpot? What version firmware?
SKRPro, was the latest one from 6 months ago or so. ill double check the next time i can
I use the ESP1 chip to do wireless control and dont have a screen (i know that can sometimes
cause issues with the sd card if inserted)
Do you have a cooling fan on the board / drivers? I’m just kind of grasping at straws on what might be the issue.
I don’t have active cooling, no
Yeah, me too. The only other time was when I accidentally used my laser 2amp supply to power it, but that’s not the issue. Using a 12v 6amp with a lot of identifying tape, lol.
I should say- since I made the post, It’s completed 6 additional boards with no issue.
I wonder if it was a power line surge or something. Should I run this on a surge protector, to be safe, do you think?
Thanks Doug.
Well, that’s a relief! Surge protector is probably always a decent idea!
Is it just that gcode file? Does it stop at the same place?
I have had problems where I only transferred the first portion of a file and the second jalf was just gone.ake sure the whole file made it to the sdcard.
The motors have no feedback to the controller. There is no reason it would stop for hot motors. The plastic will get soft at high temps. The rule of thumb is keep them below 50C (122F). Something like 60C is when the PLA starts to move.
Before sending G92, send M114 and write down those numbers somewhere. Then you can jog back after a reset. Since you haven’t done that, I’m not sure you can get it back.
I would remake and upload the file that isn’t working. I bet something is wrong with the upload. You could try downloading it first and comparing it to verify that is the issue.
Hi Jeff
Its the same GCODE file. I’m batching out 63 of a product, 4 at a time, and this was the third time running this file today. It hung up in different spots. I left the machine alone for a couple hours, while i lasered and painted the first 8, went back and reran it, and it completed 6 more before i had to go get my kids.
so i dont think its anything intrinsic with the file. I am using my phone to control over wifi, im wondering if maybe im losing connection at some point, but i have the file on the microSD in the skrPro, so thats not it.
M114 is a great tip. I’ll add that to my pre-start list and do that from now on. that could really save me one day.
Thanks
And for anyone watching- about to turn on the LR3 and do another run of 8 this morning, will post results later.
Another 8 complete, no issues. the M114 came in clutch. thanks @jeffeb3
You are rockin!
im loving getting back into it.
its been a rough year. We recently took a 3 week trip back to scotland to see my family, and had a great time, catching up and exploring. However, my dad has taken a rapid decline, and mum suspects its set off some deep depression at not seeing the kids.worried we might not see him again, so its hard.
on top of that, health issues due to allergies, post-covid syndrome, aging out (im an old 46, based on my life history, apparently) lots of life stuff with growing kids, schools, daycare, a MASSIVE full floor reno (took entire living floor down to studs and ripped everything out to build our dream space)-- doesnt leave a lot of time to do ‘stuff’.
Getting this contract, and a couple other upcoming CNC jobs, have allowed me to center my goals for the next few years and throw myself back into the business.
helps that my wife is the breadwinner and is rocking it since she went freelance, but i surely do wish i had more time to play
i just watched your youtube with the floating dust shoe and THE PENDANT!!! holy cow thats cool
im using the little blue BT keyboard and that pendant interface is making me jealous
Bart, the main guy behind FluidNC and the FluidDial, is now selling a Starter Kit for the FluidDial.
Link for kit: https://www.tindie.com/products/33366583/fluiddial-connection-starter-kit/
Link for WIki: FluidDial Pendant | Wiki.js
I’ve now made two of the FluidDials, one without the starter kit, and one with it. Both work for the Jackpot just fine.
I posted a whole “build log” on here of the first one. In editing the config.yaml file, the pin numbers for the GPIO used, have to be changed from what’s in the wiki, because it’s different on Jackpot. I documented that.
Those look great, I like that it’s ’me Ed medium’ of CNC and laser.
Is that your design or did they provide it? If it’s your original design I wonder how they got other quotes of like for like.
I don’t ever see me being in a position to make a living out of it but the idea of selling to buy more tools for the garage is very alluring
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Funny story about the design- a lot of my stuff has the honeycomb motif, and that’s what led to the initial conversation. I worked with my friend for a couple design revisions, and this was the result. She then sent it off to the committee for approval.
Then they farmed the design out to like 3 other companies, but said because it was collaborative, they had the right. My friend wasn’t involved in that decision. I was, honestly, a bit miffed.
The original was going to be a square of walnut, with that same outline and engraving cut into that brushed gold plastic with the black undertone. so it looks like a metal plaque. But they liked the all wood rustic better.
I held my tongue, added the design fee and expedite fee back into the quote (I originally removed them because friend rate) when i found out I was competing. That factor also led me to being completely upfront with my friend by saying that I probably couldnt compete with an actual plaque making company, but I could offer more in terms of personalisation and value adds. I straight up said that if the other quotes were coming in above $45/per, I couldnt do it. While she couldnt tell me the actual figures, she did tell me that price was “very competitive” and i should submit the bid. So I did, and won, and managed to add a couple dollars more per by doing some design touch-ups and a paint fill.
25 made, 38 to go. Check is in the mail apparently. I’m holding off the rest until it clears. 24 gets them through March. which- i think- is a good deal considering i havent been paid yet. One of the ‘value adds’ the big boys wont offer is starting the work before the payment clears, which would have left them without product in November, pushing off the start date for their employee incentive program.
definitely not making a living- I have 3 kids and activities that suck most of my time up, but being able to level up my workshop tools has been amazing. going from a $30 sander and the cheapest bandsaw on amazon to a 6" festool sander and hepa vacuum and a 15" bandsaw has really improved my throughput and workshop experience.
Whaaaat? Miffed would be an understatement. Like everything designed by someone for a customer is collaborative so that’s just BS.
Learning point I guess to make it clear from the outset that you retain all rights to your designs and they’re paying for the physical items only - basically if they went with someone else you designed it collaborated for free??
The reason I was curious was it would be interesting to get quotes from other ‘pro’ shops to see what the rest of the market is pitching at. What’s the chances they went will you because you were 1/4 to a 1/2 of all the other bids!
Keep up the inspirational work friend, like the others said you’re knocking it out of the park there.
