Also, the upgrade kit is basically 2 leadscrews, plates and a few screws, so the margin is pretty low, I guess. Especially those upgrading should consider a dollar or 20.
, really hope so too. But, I think he over achieved one of his LR4 design goals… Make LR3 to LR4 upgrades as easy and as affordable as possible. Given all the research and development time that went into LR4, am worried he’s actually losing money on this release.
Hope Ryan has easy ways for people to tip/support him if they’re able and want to, and they find great value from the designs he shares, and time/energy he gives relentlessly supporting the community.
Hopefully he gets enough love to keep the lights on, food on his table, keep him having fun, and motivated, to help put out more great machines.
I agree with all of this. But if there is one thing I know, Ryan is a SMART man. He knows what’s up with his finances and I am sure he has a plan to keep the lights on. This release wont be all upgrades. There will be plenty full kit purchase as well I am sure. And when he starts selling the fancy printed parts that will be a big help too I am sure.
Bonehead that I am I didn’t see the v3 to v4 kit and just bought the plates.
Can anyone comment as to whether 150mm (kit has 145mm) T8 lead screws will suffice?
You can use 300mm for what it’s worth… Won’t be pretty though.
I hope so too! I can’t help but add a few more things to the cart when I’m shopping at V1. The bits are a good value for me, and I like to have some replacement parts on hand. I needed some 6mm stuff for an unrelated project, so since V1 carries it I’m happy to add it to my order.
For those that are new here, you can also support Ryan in other ways like Patreon.
This release seems really awesome and I’m happy for Ryan that his hard work is out in the world. In some tiny way, each thing we make with the machines could be attributed back to his hard work in designing a machine we can all build with rolls of plastic and some nuts and bolts.
145+ anything larger is completely fine.
I will have them in the shop in teh next day or two, or I can edit your order. If you want me to change it please email your order number ASAP, things are very hectic so I only check once an hour or so.
I have two printers ready with new spools in, the V3 waitings dxf for milling the XZ Plates, all the hardware and electronics well organized in boxes, the makita cleaned and laying on the shelf… I’m in fibrillation😂
I will release the parts this evening or tomorrow. I am trying to get some of these orders out so I can focus on the rest of the release.
I went from Primo to LR3, the 4 is the same number on on the major parts list. You have enough motors (5). You’ll need 1 more lead screw and coupler, 4 rails. Actual hardware count… I don’t remember bolts etc. I had a bunch extra but you’ll need the screws/bolts to attach the rails to the end plates.
I ordered the aluminum plates already. I was going to try my hand at aluminum on the 3 since I’ve never done it before, but the aluminum plates aren’t exactly cheap, especially if things went badly. So I’ll stick with wood for now.
The end rails look to be clear at the top, so longer screws and rails should be fine. At least I hope so because mine on the 3 are longer
Mmmhhh… I guess I’ll cut it myself>_< (and that’s not including taxes)
Hope the stock sells out though because the LR4 looks like a beast
Just buy it
Man that shipping is brutal!
Same, shipping to Europe is brutal. At least I am now forcing myself to learn to cut aluminium on the LR3
where are you shipping tooo???
@Fabien, how much would it be to buy locally, France? Maybe there’s an opportunity for Ryan to allow people to buy locally if they send him a tip/royalty thing, so everyone except the shipping companies benefit? More eco friendly to buy local and all that too.
E.g. Would be better to cut out shipper and split the $44.97 shipping savings between Ryan and Fabien?
If you are patient, Ryan might have a solution once he gets unburied.
I bet it could be done with a paper template, hacksaw, drill, and file. That’s basically how I made my lr3 plates, surprisingly not that bad just time consuming.
