Any value in adding a url slug or query string to help understanding how many chips turn into visits? e.g.
If I may be incredibly blunt (I am really sorry for posting this publicly but I think time is a bit of the essence)- I think they are way too conservative - what purpose are they serving?
What message are they sending?
I don’t think they need to send a particular message in a crowded hall - they just need to add some life to the stand - notwithstanding that you expect a bit of branding of course.
Why not one really nice detail of a part of a machine (this is what we can help you make), and one huge montage of projects from the gallery to (this is what you can make with what you have built) Sorry for the super crappy job here but it shows what i’m getting at - if you like I’ll do a similar “projects” one to give you an idea what that might look like - just have to have breakfast now. ![]()
Hum. The week before the largest event I’ve ever production managed (almost by an order of magnitude)… yeah, I suspect I can’t get away with running off to the US… ![]()
Next year for sure, cost be damned. I’d love to meet you all. Between V1E and the local makerspace my life is pretty much on a whole new track now! ![]()
Maybe lean into what community members have made, and how Makers have customized their CNCs (even if it’s just different colors). Inspire and expand attendee’s perspective.
Ideally you have a quantum pixel display behind you that cycles through various projects ![]()
I really liked some of the internally lit signs some people brought last year. Nice eye candy.
Oooh! That reminds me- how did you create those self-playing tablets you brought to the show? I loved those, something to hand over and let folks look at while you chat.
Much lower res, much larger pixels to try and print.
Yeah buddy, help me!!!
I like it!
I thought about and looked into some large options. Large TV’s are by far the least expensive, but they have to be bought and givenaway as shipping is as much as a new one. I like the idea of reusing a backdrop more. cheap shipping.
Yeah I love the project showcase.
Thanks Jim! Shared current code and setup at https://github.com/aaronse/v1e-vnext/tree/main/v1e-10, repo’s private because setup docs/UX are not great. Originally gave repo access to LR4 Beta folks, since some Beta notes/files are there too. DM/respond with your github alias if you’d like to take a look. Was hoping to package the offline gallery snapshot into something that’s easier for anyone to access, and/or just throw onto my maker website for online viewing. Sadly, my time/execution lags my curiosity/goals…
How does that compare to restocking fee at the local best buy ![]()
I would just feel awful doing that. Luckily I think a regular background a easier to deal with as well.
I have to look and see if blender has a good 3D printed texture! Unless somehow I can manage a good picture that can handle being blown up that large.
That’s the kind of thing you ask local volunteers to find/bring.
I’m weird in that I don’t have a big TV in my own spaces except for the monsters on my office walls at my day job.
If it fits in an F150 with a topper, I can help move things around in my truck the day before RMRRF.
Oh to be old and dirty, all I could think was drapes!!!
Send me the original file and the size needed by the backdrop mob. We have ways! (They have ways too.)
Here’s a quick and dirty second panel idea - timeless and a cool discussion piece! .
Go on… be brave! Doesn’t it say everything about the “spirit of V1E”? ![]()

Don’t sweat too much about the resolution - the backdrop is to suck people in from a distance and perhaps become a talking point - as an example of what I’m talking about, here’s a snap of one of my bathroom walls - very low res shot, has JPG artifacts and so on, but works a treat because it’s a graphic piece not an engineering photo.
There is a fine line though between “works” and “looks like crap!” ![]()
Compact projectors have really come down in price. Seems like that could be a good option that you could take with you.
But I guess you need a surface to project onto. May leave a white space on the backdrop for projecting? That way the backdrop will be double duty and you don’t have to transport a screen. ![]()
On these backdrops, add forum.v1e.com
???
Only problem I see here is people would be walking in front of it blocking the projector all the time.
Or travel with a projectable surface (white fabric) and some magnets to “pin” it to the display if you want to project. That gets you the flexibility to use it or not, without a permanent empy block on the display itself. Should fold up and store in the same case as the display, or with the projector.
Maybe the projector could ride on the LED arm? (assuming you’re springing for those and the throw distance is adequate, and keystone adjustment can be dialed in, etc. etc. etc.)
Wait, check out our community forum.v1e.com
Or something like that
I see projectors all the time at the local university surplus store. Very affordable.
The small travel sized ones, though, get sold nearly instantly when they are set out.
I’ll keep an eye out for them.
