PWM control for a Makita Router

Theoretically, i could hook up this 8amp power relay to the Jackpot board and wire in my Makita router to be controlled by the software correct? And should i use the Mosfet or the 5v out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, these work great for that. Amazon.com

That gets you on and off control, not PWM though.

Welcome @lyonmaster!

Personally only seen one person do a Makita mod to integrate SuperPID. Seen a few add SSR/relays turn power Makita on/off. Some folks, that really want/need speed control, after spending some time with their machines, seem to end up using increasingly affordable VFD and Spindles. Most folks seem to just turn router/vac/air/etc… on and off by hand.

It’s neat being able to mod and upgrade parts over time on these CNCs.

I use this IOT relay to turn my router (and my laser) on and off. It is more expensive than an SSR (or even a physical relay which I’ve also seen used), but a bit simpler to install. It seems to vary in price and availability across the places that sell it.

Also, for anyone looking at an SSR like Ryan suggests, I’ve read in multiple places that, for inductive loads, you want an SSR rated at 4X to 5X the inductive load. The one Ryan references is 40A, which should work well for a 6.5A Makita trim router.

Awesome got it, i used the same thing for my 110v printer bed heater. Didn’t click as this would do the same thing I’m looking for. Just a simple on off. Sorry about the late response, been suffering all week with a bad stomach issue. New meds really messed me up.

Back when i used the dewalt router with my 6pack controller i used this relay module
It keeps the wiring to a minimum.

4000W High Power SCR Electronic Volt Regulator Speed Controller Motor AC 220V 110V Amazon.com

I used this with my Dewalt for years y o u lose a little power but kept the buring to a minimum not software setable though but it is speed controller

Makita price+relay or ssr+ that controller ppl will be better with an 800w 65mm spindle+vfd thats capable of rs485 you get software controll for not too much money.

Or keep it simple and just get your makita router a nice set of 1/8"+6mm collet (available on ebay or elaire corp and a relay module from barts tindie page) a quality makita clone or the original should be sufficient
