Yes, Philipp is making a terribly cruel and unkind reference to the pace at which I (don’t) pump out finished machines! I think I have a total of four years of build threads round here for 1.98% machines complete!
All I know is it would make me crazy… (Crazier? Depends who you ask, I guess.) I have unfinished machines all the time, but a large number of finished and abandoned ones. MANY V1 machines in the “finished and in service” list of course, but I have to either get stuff done or move on. The results aren’t always so pretty, but functional.
I have LOTS of projects like that - these are just not those! I think of them as my model train set!
But the distractions are what drives me crazy!
You are forgettig the cruel and unkind reference to Ryan makig a new printer first as well, before turning to the much surperior LR4 with captured rails and an untwistable X.
Surely that’s all old tech now that he’s looking for a supplier of liner rails!
(This is how internet rumours start - I think I’ll ask about that on Xwitter, then it will be real!)
Does he still go with the plasma core though?
I’m hoping there’ll be an Orgasmatron mount.
I think final plans are waiting on commodity dilithium crystals.
I will admit to thinking of a rig to hold a pair of 1" tubes LR3 beam spaced apart to allow me to weld in a 24ga steel face plate. (Gotta make use of the MIG welder somehow.) I figured with a steel plate welded in instead of bolted to the braces that beam isn’t going to twist… at least not under forces that won’t grenade the router bearings.
One of the limitations that I faced making my braces was a material length limit of 4’, so my beam is 47.5" long, for a 40.5" X axis. Not quite up to 48", so I want to re-make the beam 56" long at some point for a 49" axis. The welded beam has a lot that can go wrong in assembly, but once successfully built has a lot going for it. Not exactly a DIY for most of us though.
But folded and riveted ACM is well within reach.
I’m still waiting on the plans for a mostly printed interociter to be released.
Hey just touching base to see if you have been able to get any time for it.
Not on top of it - will be over the weekend!
Under the pump a little - still haven’t forgotten! And there’s a queue too - I have a couple of PM’s on Printables after it!! Mads! Stay patient please!
Many thanks to @DougJoseph for taking this off my plate!
I’m a little under the pump at the moment and even though there’s next to no work needed I just can’t fit it in the immediate future.
Therefore, Doug has kindly offered to upload my “standard” tall plates version as well as his modified ones to Printables, to make the package complete!
I have suggested that due to reliability issues (with Me) those of you with tall plates who wish to use the Fenders, consider cutting Doug’s version rather than waiting for a further custom version which is not likely to happen before Christmas!
No, there’s nothing wrong, I’m just trying to compress the rest of the year’s projects into the next month or so before we hit the road for an extended period!
I have several fender remixes posted. If you see anything that needs changed in any way, just let me know.

I’ve done my best to provide file sets for a variety of stock and tall YZ plates, plus the same in combination with my Hidden Belts Mod, plus the same but for “mirrored” LR3 machines like mine. Here’s a list of the file sets provided:
- Fenders, Hidden Belts Mod, stock YZ Plates (see 19mm notes)
- Fenders, Mirrored LR3, Hidden Belts Mod, stock YZ Plates
- Fenders for DougDan Tall YZ Plates
- Fenders for DougDanTall for Hidden Belts Mod
- Fenders, Mirrored LR3, for DougDanTall for Hidden Belts Mod
- Fenders for Dan Tall YZ Plates
- Fenders for Dan Tall for Hidden Belts Mod
- Fenders, Mirrored LR3, for Dan Tall for Hidden Belts Mod
- CLIP SPACERS for DanTall & DougDanTall YZ Plate Fenders
- CLIP SPACERS, set of front clips for Hidden Belts Mod
- CLIP SPACERS, set of Y-extend clips for Hidden Belts Mod
Peter’s “Clip Spacers” are included to make the fenders adjustable for a variety of thicknesses of YZ plates. Note that for the Hidden Belts Mod, the front spacer has to be 25mm shorter. There is a set of these shorter spacers provided for those doing the Hidden Belts Mod.
Hi doug, i have the normal size but with the hiden Belt mod Will
Here’s a quote from the Printables listing:
MIX AND MATCH OPTION:
I’m fairly confident that a LowRider with regular-sized YZ plates (not the taller ones) and also having the Hidden Belts Mod in place, could mix and match the normal top fenders from Peter’s original listing, plus the bottom fender and front (aka outrigger) fender from this listing, and get a working set. The mount clips would need to be from this set. For the Hidden Belts Mod, if the clip spacers are needed, then the back clip spacer is normal, while the front clip spacer has to be 25mm shorter. There is a set of these shorter spacers provided for those doing the Hidden Belts Mod. If any problems are encountered, let me know.
It’s definitely doable, and you try and run into issues, you can let me know and I can focus attention on it.
I don’t think that will work Doug depending of course on the profile of the plate.
My standard top part is OK, but your bottom profile is completely different because of the shape of the plate. I don’t think it would be difficult for you to modify my stock bottom though.
then your clips will work as well.
Seeing your contrast / compare image, I can see that the Y-extend fender (the “outrigger” one) will stick out too much at the front to get a perfect match. So I would need to do a remix there. Will work on it.
Hey, I looked in your original fenders listing on Printables, to get the diagonal-print versions of the clips for mounting, with the built-in support wings, but I did not see them there. I cannot seem to remember where I saw them, probably somewhere in this thread. Are you planning to put them into your original listing? RIght now I’m scrolling through the thread to find them.
UPDATE: I think I found the post of yours with the newer clips:
I now have a test print of the 45° version - I can’t test install them because my covers are slightly different and at the moment I don’t have time to reprint. I can say that even with only two perimeters they are noticeably better. I have only printed one - with a snap off fin and it worked perfectly with no other support. PrusaSlicer did throw up a warning that I needed more footprint so I’ll extend the fin for the share version. It snapped off perfectly cleanly with no effort with onl…
