Did you set your Z zero before running the file?
This is really not needed and I am sure it is not very well tested. Almost all machines run metric on the back end. You can use imperial for cam if you want but I would let it use metric for the gcode. Is this the source of your issues, probably not, but you might be the only one using imperial in gcode.
Doing that also make the gcode harder for us to look at and see what is wrong, because we now have to convert all the numbers we already know at a glance typically.
Had no idea… I set Millmage to imperial because I still think in Imperial. I may be able to go back in and change the setting and have it go again.
I thought I had, but I was having trouble with the auto probing. So I set all axis to 0 and I believe it recognizes as 0 when it starts?
I believe that it could have been the combination of having my settings leaning toward quick rather than strong. The new one that I printed seems to be much stronger and I can’t break with my hands so we will see.
Looking at my original settings, I believe I originally had it set to Millmage’s default which was something like 280 ipm… which would be 118mm/s, so I will dial that WAY down and try again now with stronger print for router mount. Seems like 8mm per second is where I will start for feed speed to get going.
I’ve been cutting at 25mm/s, so 118 is off the chart.
Yes indeed! I think the mystery is solved… sure looked cool carving through foam at high speed though. Learning like crazy, and I should have done much more testing before trying do the actual piece.
Everything going nicely… greatly reduced the speeds and printed stronger router mount. Cut some test pieces and working nicely.
Then I noticed that the sizes were wrong. For example, I believe the Crown is supposed to be 140mm wide and its about 175. Everything seems to be 1.25 larger than it is supposed to cut.
I’m using an MPCNC Burly with Jackpot 2 and Millmage. But everything seems to be 1.25 larger than it should be, for example I used GSender to do the crown. I am using a 3mm endmill and that is what MillMage is set for.
Looking at my config.yaml both x and y are set to “50 steps per mm” and the Z is set to 200 steps per mm.
Any ideas on what I should look at first?
Did you self source your parts? Are you using 20T pulleys instead of 16t?
I will run and check.. I bought the whole thing as a kit at a sale years ago. Not sure how the guy procured it, but I did have to reprint just about everything.
Confirmed, yes they are 20T pulleys! I take it that 16T should have been used?
Is there a way to correct that in the config.yaml or do I need to source new 16T pulleys?
A picture and we should be able to tell you pretty quick as well.
Just change the steps per mm in the config, to 20% less than they are.
What an incredible resource this group is. Banging my head against the wall. Could be why the guy moved on from the project. I’ll gladly stop and ask for directions.

Yeah, self sourcing is not for the faint of heart. So many little things that can come back and bite you if you are not careful.

So close… now my probe is working as intended. I am cutting pretty much as expected, all predictable but it is just a touch too large and in this case the dimensions are critical.
I’m about 1/8 of an inch too long over 14 inches. It is an 1/8 inch bit but my understanding is that Millmage handles that.
I am cutting a series of slots in 1/4 inch plywood for cooling vents for a stereo case.
I also have now realized that if I was smart I would have just the piece large… cut the vents and then trimmed the sides to center the vent pattern I would be better off. Live and learn.
A little reading at lunch… and I can see the info on here on how to calibrate… back to the config.yaml . All of this is way too cool.
Make sure you are using a full depth finishing pass if you are looking for critical dimensions.
The end of the LR instructions has a belt calibration section, that should get you extremely close and then do the square calibration.
