How is the MMU3 holding up? I just had a extra teaching assignment that payed quite well. I’m billing through my one man company and can deduct expenses from tax. Therefore I need to acquire some new gadgets for my very small business…
I can’t decide - should I get
an XL,
5 Mk4’s with MMU?
Or just an MMU to fit my MK$
Ahh, maybe I can decide!
If I had the money I’d buy an XL with 5 toolheads without thinking twice.
Well duh!
I’ve suggested an XL for our new makerspace, but the 3d printer geeks just wants big Vorons with ercf. I just want more shiny Prusa stuff!
MMU3 Update: After I had to babysit the colour changes of the Core, I made the decision to actually use the official MMU Buffer. Since I installed it, I haven’t had a single problem. Yes, changing one of the five filaments now takes 2 minutes instead of 20 seconds, but I mostly use the same five colours anyway. I also do not have the filament in the dryboxes all the time, the filament in the buffer lies open, but I don’t live in Australia. @bitingmidge’s dyboxes are wetter than every climate that I’ve ever endured. And the time I need I easily make up by not needing to untangle filament in the dryboxes.
P.S.: Prusa sent me new boards for the MMU. They did not fix the USB cable needed hack. So there is probably something wrong with the printer itself, not the MMU…
Lovely!
I just bought a resin printer this summer. Saturn 4 ultra. The plan is to print nice landscapes, mount them on a frame, and sell them in turist shops! If I get some income from this, I’ll use the earned money for the MMU
I’ve had some people asking me for FDM-printed landscapes, but with different colors for the terrains. That’s an obvious use case for the MMU.
That’s a quick development cycle!
$99 upgrade for existing users is a great price.
Buried down in the announcement is this, which I think is really exciting as it may allow us to use this board or a similar design as an add-on for other boards (SKR Pro on Klipper, or maybe if we’re clever as an add-on for FluidNC expansion connectors)
we’re now introducing an optional accessory: a GPIO “hackerboard” for advanced users. This small electronics board connects directly to the mainboard and you can control it using G-code commands. So, for example, you can solder an LED strip to it and let it flash in specific colors when a print is finished. You can also set up a remote camera trigger, turn on filtration, or design your own print harvester. The possibilities are virtually endless and we can’t wait to see what crazy ideas you’ll come up with!
Where can I buy this? It’s not in the shop yet… O_o
They have delayed it a little so that people with new table saws can have an extra paycheque!
I kind of want the MK4s now, but I also kind of want to build a MP3DPv5
Also, I am a little mad now:
I think I am going to skip it for the time being. I do not want to buy another obXidian 0.6mm high flow nozzle that isn’t supported by the MMU3 either…
0.6mm nozzles are sooo last year!
I can’t order mine until I can see which LCD I have, so I guess that probably means I willl see it in November!
I knew because I had to have mine replaced… -_- They boast a less than 1% error/return rate… I am 50% of that 1%… Argh.
When I saw that I had a bunch of notifications, I instinctively knew that it was this thread, and some of you beat me at mentioning the new release! Always exciting to see what new functions are added. But I’m not sure if it’s worth it on it’s own? Shipping and VAT to the polar bear region is steep… perhaps I can order the upgrade together with the MMU3 if I some day can afford it.
