And on that note I think I am comfortable enough to finally release the files:

That looks really good!
Awesome creation !
Just a few questions, what is the max stock height on Brutus ?
Also how much centimeters are lost between tube/table size and the work area(let say with same configuration as yours) ?
In the manual I have the max stock height listed at 3.5", Z travel is ~4" so you can space it further if you need to. Footprint I have noted as:
Overall Length = Y Tube Length
Overall Width (Corner Bottom to Corner Bottom) = X Upper Tube Length + 4.6”
Max Width (Y Stepper Motor to Cable Chain) = X Upper Tube Length + 7.45”
With the Tube lengths as:
Y Tube Length = 10.7” + Y Travel (in inches)
X Upper Tube Length = 8” + X Travel (in inches)
My machine with 25"x25" work area wound up being 36" total on Y and 36.6" on X (39.5" from the stepper to the cable chain)
Your manual is very easy to follow. Well done on the writeup!
Thanks! Spent a chunk of time making sure it is just that!
Great looking machine! You obviously put a lot of time in. I am interested in building this in the future, I hope. I just went to the thingiverse link, is there a way to download all files at once?? I feel like I have been able to download all files together before but lately that option isnt available on thingiverse. Weird.
It has disappeared at Thingiverse indeed. Theres a link in the upper right menu to download all files, but it only takes you to the file section. If you go to the Printables link, you can download them all in one package.
I think the hack for that is go to the files section, then in the site link bar and change /files to /zip
It’s only been broken for like a year now. I’m honestly surprised the site works at all anymore.
What was your total build cost? Have you tried cutting aluminum yet?
Honestly I dont even know my build cost since I have had most of the parts for a few years. Since I have it set up for a spindle with vfd over a router it will be around $100~$200 over the base line MPCNC.
Working on some CAM for aluminum, will be running some this weekend if I can get out to the shop.
If it helps I was curious to see how much it’ll cost as well. Using your link for the bolts and inserts as well as the V1 shop and amazon it came to just under $550. Minus the control board and router it came to about $290. Neither of those prices include the rails. (First price was with an skr pro v1.2 board bundle and makita rt0700 router)
I still need to get a mount drawn up for the makita, I have a model of it (thank you grabcad), just been busy with life and the new toy lol. A new mount is needed so the head of the router will clear the Z Stepper and will sit at the right height. Not everyone wants a spindle and vfd combo, just wasn’t my first priority pre-file release.
Mount is now uploaded, I do consider it a beta part since I can’t test it myself. I also added a page in the manual for info on it.
Any issues with dust/debris build up on the Z axis linear rails/bearings?
Not yet, the wipers on the ends of the bearings keeps stuff out of the bearing itself. Plugs can be installed over the screw pockets on the rails so dust cant build up there either.
Almost don’t want to use these SMW mod vises with how good they look! Oh well, hopefully will get to sling some aluminum chips this weekend!
Made some chips and definitely learned some things, the last thing you will run out of is rigidity! Super happy with the 1/4" settings so far after some initial tweaks, 1/8" does need a little more work before I am happy with them. I think I am going to relinquish facing duties to the mill however, hard to beat the finish of a 2" face mill. Sorry, no video this time! Was too concerned with settings and the e-stop to worry about a camera. Starting to get a handle on this CAM thing!
