I’m late to the party, and you beat me to it.
I see it was confirmed … Nice tie-in with dragon (“fire breathing” aka “lasering”).
Nice. Can’t wait to see how it performs. I really like the LightBurn software and have had a lot of good luck using it.
Hi Ryan, I’m the LightBurn support guy looking at your LowRider3
Haven’t quite ordered yet, only the SKR Pro board is showing in stock - should I get that?..started to load up cart like this:
Does that look like everything I will need? I think I pretty much need everything, except the YZ plates which I was thinking about making with acrylic on the laser.
Do I need anything else for speed control for the Makita router?
Welcome to the forums you two.
I’d recommend to add 3 of those Stepper extender wires. – V1 Engineering Inc if you, like me, hate crimping your own cables. Did so for my second CNC and was pretty happy with it.
Also you could think about getting the new Kobalt router (which is on sale for 89$ at the moment), it has an ER11 collet, so you wouldn’t need the Makita 1/8 collet.
As far as I know noone here uses an electronic speed control for the Makita, I know there were reasons for it but I forgot. Some of us use spindles, I recently swapped to an AMB with digital control.
The Jackpot will be back in stock in a couple days, That is the better option I think. Less expense and I am sure you are more familiar with GRBL coming from a lightburn background.
10M of Extra belt? It comes with enough for a 4’x8’ build That only takes 8M and it is included.
If you are in the US the new Kobalt linked on the homepage will not require the collets and is on sale right now.
The kit comes with pre-made wires, extra should not be needed (it actually comes with new fancy wires I have not shown anyone yet…).
Uuuh, sweet. Show!
Yes, I’m with @Tokoloshe on this… show us what’s up!
Ok thanks everybody, I’ll wait a few days and try again for the Jackpot, I’m based in New Zealand so unfortunately no Kolbalt.
Just sent my Beta begging email to betasupport@lightburnsoftware.com. LightBurn CAM sounds interesting!
Edit:
Noticed…
- https://lightburnsoftware.com/ links to…
- Download / Trial – LightBurn Software, which links to…
- Public Beta Releases – LightBurn Software, which links to…
- Public Beta - Google Drive, which contains…
These aren’t the Downloads you’re looking for?
Beta release page mentions… “The standard licensing rules apply - you’ll need to have a current license key to run these (or be in an active trial period).”, so maybe future Customers need to sign up for a trial to try out the Beta?
I sent one as soon as someone posted about it and the reply I got said I was added to the contact list. Sure hope that means I’m in lol
So, yesterday I sent my email, and today got this nice note from Lightburn:

Hi Doug,
Thanks for your request and the additional info (nice YT channel I saw one of your videos recently about the Kobalt router!).
We’ve logged this info and will get in touch when/if you’re selected for beta access.
Cheers,
LightBurn Software Support
That is cool! Not an automated response… and it is a good video.
Yeah, I also only got an automated response though I posted my Youtube.
I included a photo of myself and my design8studio logo, so maybe my “pretty pictures” made difference.
The when/if makes me think they have reached the capacity they want for the beta test
Kind of funny how we’re fantasizing about being beta testers - all the while some of the crew is also here!
I’m interested to know if the beta is live and people have been “chosen” or if it is still in development and the timeline is further out to like q2 next year, etc. maybe they are going to fix the travelling salesman problem definitively and final alpha testing has yet to confirm that.
I’m just super curious. It seems to me that MillMage is the world’s best kept secret - beta testers must have some explosive self-destruct implant if they spill the beans!
Is there any advance on coming soon?
No word on my end, I got accepted pretty late though. I submitted first from the forums but got accepted last by a good margin. No updates since then. Wonder what the sticking point is.
