Mame arcade

Definitely would work for a cnc kiosk.

I like the overall look

It looks like stuff will fall whenever you push something in the front

Maybe add some “lip” on the side and back of those shelves?

That’s probably a pretty good idea. thanks!

I was hoping someone who has recently made a Mame control panel could help me out. Weird question but… I am trying to find out the specs of a spring that is in the “Happ type” buttons that Amazon sells. I am using a spring I found in a parts box that is from an authentic Happ button of this size that I purchased years ago, and I need a few more springs of similar size and strength. There are several listings on Amazon like this:

Amazon.com: EG STARTS 6X American Style Standard Arcade Buttons Switchable Happ Type 30mm Push Button 3/16" Terminal for Jamma Mame Kit Parts (White) : Video Games

If anyone has recently purchased these or similar (they come in all colors) is there any way you could pop one open and measure the spring with a micrometer (of particular importance is the wire diameter). Before I buy these, I need the following measurements to see if they fit my needs - my spring’s measurements are shown in ( ) for reference…

Resting length: (40mm)
Outer Diameter: (16mm)
Wire diameter: (.7mm)

Cheers

Little update, Having fun with it still. Making slow progress.

I think…maybe, I am going to do just OSB painted black shelves. In the end there will be stuff on them and there is not much to see. But this is looking so good, maybe I need a little nicer shelf surface.

Then I was at Lowes over the weekend and they had quarter sheets of some ply with a nicer surface. I am going to recut the control panel out of that.

You need some edge banding on that plywood! Surprised you didn’t account for that thickness in the CAD so it would be perfectly flush

Edge banding…no way, I am trying to showcase the ply.

If you put led neon on the outer edge of the ply it is hard to see it unless the light is off.

If you have ply to show off, SHOW OFF THE PLY (clear finish, not black paint).

Love the CNC arcade setup. We need more standard project stuff

So now that it is nearing completion, what will u be playing on it? I have always had a hard time with the roms. Either Japanese or har to map out correctly.

I bought a handheld thing for a grandkid, it came with like 1800 ROMs on the MicroSD. $70 all up

Just sayin’ there’s options out there.

But what was the quality of them? Were they good?

Myself I wish Nintendo would open a store! Original arcade donkey Kong, Atari pac man, etc!!!

There were 1800 LOL. Many indeed crap.

But all the stuff you’d probably want to run was there as well as some really out there stuff like games for the Sinclair computers.

When I built a machine years ago, I downloaded 2500 from somewhere on the Internet. There were only a dozen or so that were worth playing - all the classics. They were all the original roms from the actual games though.

The games so far are all mapped correctly, the only thing I have to change is screen orientation since mine rotates for vertical games.

That looks great. Are you making drawers?

It sounds like you are going with a clear coat on the wood surface for your control panel, which will look great on that design. If you do decide to go with graphics, look into having them print on a vinyl laminate with a textured finish. I think the place I used was called mameMarquees or something like that. I was going to have them print on photo paper and put it under some lucite, but they had this matte finish laminate stuff, and it was so nice that I put it on top of the lucite. It was extremely tough. Impossible to scratch. I found some graphics on deviantArt, created an overlay for the buttons and joysticks and uploaded it to the printer. No glare as you can see from the pic, unlike the ones that have the lucite on top.

No, but at least one might have been cool.

Yeah, clear for now. The graphics are on my radar and would be a lot more fun, and I could add button function labels.

Maybe a single “under-shelf" drawer with 3d printed rails fixed under one of the shelves ?

I had a friend with a large format printer print a poster for mine and i laminated it. It was glossy and not super durable. That matte finish sounds like the way to go.
