Lowrider 2 (NEMA 23 upgrade)

The design would have to be reworked to use those larger motors.

I would not want to do that. The spindle is about $300 with the inverter. Will I need a 220 plug installed if I went with a 220V inverter.

That would probably cost more than it’s worth. My 110V unit is working great.

Thanks again. I am moving closer to start purchasing items. I will get the table built and the gantry built and the steppers. Then I can approach the, controller, stepper drivers and spindle/inverter.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Tom, when you get a moment, would you please put together a BOM for the new pulleys/idlers/belts you used?

I just pulled the trigger on NEMA 23 steppers and drivers.

X & Y axes:
HTD 3M timing pulley 24 teeth 6.35mm bore for 15mm wide belt
3M20T smooth idler pulley 5mm bore for 15mm wide belt
HTD 3M timing belt 15mm wide

Z axis:
6.35x8mm flexible coupler

I bought these on Amazon. Looking forward to following your build.

One more question: With the DM542 drivers you are running, what Marlin changes did you make, specifically with regards to choosing the correct stepper settings and model?

That is one question I don’t have an answer for. I am running GRBL on my controller.

Would a 1.5KW AIR-COOLED MOTOR SPINDLE AND MATCHING INVERTER FOR CNC work great on the lowrider2 - your 4 tube gantry design. It is a used system they low hours for $168 for both spindle and converter.

@1966Oldz Good morning. That should work fine.

maybe you should a sort of hat to protect the moto on the last photo from dust…

I don’t think my machine works right unless there is dust on it

Who’ll this be strong enough? If it is even a chance it won’t push it then I will avoid. Used Four Bearing1.5KW ER11 Air-cooled Spindle Motor 1.5KW HY Inverter Drive VFD

Thanks

Sorry I just saw the answer

Good morning. My girls (3 black labs) just woke me up to feed them. That spindle is definitely strong enough for the Lowrider. And the HY VFD offers 3 remote speed control options as well as manual speed control on its front panel.

I purchased the 6 pack controller. What screen or monitor do it need to purchase to go with it?

Thanks

I am using a 7 year old ASUS 10" tablet to control my Lowrider via a browser over WIFI. I upload gcode (from Fusion 360) to the controller using my PC via a browser over WIFI. The controller has a WebUI for manual control and running gcode from the SD card.

Does that mean that the screen on V1 web site will work? I can use both the PC and or the screen?

I was typing out the parts I purchased and there is no way I could build this machine for under $500. I think that it is going to coat right at 1,000.

I have been pricing the SS tubing and it is through the roof expensive. Do you know a hood supplier?

Peace

I don’t think the 6-pack has the interface for those screens. My Samsung Note 9 has a 5.7" screen so have used it to control my machine. Some people are using CNCjs to control their machines.
I have been buying my tubing at Metal Supermarket in Phoenix. It is about 50 miles away but I make the trip to Phoenix occasionally anyway.

I hear the Alro outlets have decent pricing. I called up every “steel supply” shop in my city and got quotes. Most where well over 100. But then there was one local supply and salvage shop that sold me 20’ for $70
