JJ’s Full Sheet LR3 Rebuild

I don’t mind the soldering part. It’s all the prep to get to that point that I don’t care for.

Well I didn’t make it near as far as I hoped today. Had to go grocery shopping with the family then after dinner my son wanted to cut some stuff on the laser. So nice having him take interest in something I’m doing so I was all over that. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll find some time between other things to get ALL these strips soldered together and in there mounts. New screws for the brace should be here tomorrow as well. Hopefully once all these lights are done some decent progress will be made and she will be back up and running.

Very much so! Going to try to teach him more as I learn more about it. Hoping when he gets home he will want to learn about how to actually run it. We will see how it goes lol

In actual low rider news. I was soldering some prep stuff this morning and decided why not make a YouTube… So now soldering has gotten much more complicated LOL

My oldest has been a loss on this one even though he showed interest earlier in life (I’m still trying though).

My youngest is starting to show interest so I put everything aside and started an Otto bot with him last night. Hoping this one sticks with it.

I did a lot of working with my mom and my friends, nailing together boats, putting some string on them and then we’d throw into the nearby lake, pulling them back. Then I didn’t do any woodworking for the next 20 years and just rediscovered it pretty late again. So the seed has been planted in your kids, don’t worry. :slightly_smiling_face:

I learned a lot with my dad coming up. My son hasn’t shown much interest at all. He’s more into gaming and staying in his room usually. my step daughter was much more into it but now graduate and doing her own thing. Mason will ask questions here and there but never real interest until now and I’m going to try and do as much as I can with it to help build it into more. I was talking with my wife this morning about it. I am bad about letting go. Wanting the control and to just do it my self. And I really want to let go of that and teach him more.

Thank you. It was definitely a TON of work to get to this point but I’m happy with the outcome

And thank you @DougJoseph for the amazing design. Hopefully I did it justice

Beautiful design, and build. How did you mount the lights? Guessing am not the only one you’ve inspired to pimp out our gantries.

It needs a tad bit of adjustment and will need the base sketch edited to suit your brace spacing. I will upload it to printables and post the link in a few or in the morning lol.

On mine I have the lights set at 60° I think I should have went with 45°. It doesn’t show up in person as much as it does in the pics but that dead zone in the middle could be better with more angle I think. Should have done an actual light test before just going with it. And the notches for the wires need to be opened up just a touch. Another mm and they would have been perfect. They worked but not as well as they could have.

I hope I’m just the start! I know @Tokoloshe is itching to put some on his LOL

Has @vicious1 seen this yet???

Oh my. That looks GOOD!

I already have some LEDs that will tie into my switching power supply. Don’t know if I will cut any acrylic for it, I’ll see what it looks like without before I make that decision.

Thank you both!!! I cant wait to see it all finished up. Going to do some testing later today for the side plates on some scrap I have, see what gives them the best look. Going to see if flame polishing the part where the lights go helps get more light into them, And thinking about spraying the backside (beam side) with some frosted spray paint to see if that makes them light up anymore as well. I like the ones on my smaller LR3 but why not try something new lol.

@azab2c and anyone else interested. Here is the link to printables for the files. You will have to go in and modify the sketch 1 dimensions to suit your brace spacing of course so the .3mf files I uploaded are basically useless but oh well. If anyone tries them out let me know what you think. This model will seem extremely basic to most but it was out of my wheelhouse for sure and I’m curious as to anything I could/should have done differently. Always looking to learn more for sure.

Ohh man I feel you pain with the power bill. I put in a gas fireplace and it cut mine almost in half. We are about 800 but ours is for 2 months.
