Help with first print

That’s the same totes I use to store in, just the larger version. I think we have 6 or 8 of them now :man_facepalming:

I just watched this video the other day. It’s kind of annoying but basically says you don’t need to buy expensive ones.
I’ve Been Proven Wrong About Calipers! - YouTube

I’ve had these Neiko ones for 5 or 6 years.

That’s not an insignificant amount of filament…

Yeah its kinda crazy the amount of filament here lol. And its only open spools in the totes. There is a ton new in the box on the shelf still lol. My wife has to have every color made on hand

@zero_indexed Just zoomed in to see your profile picture. Now I want to rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

Cardboard box from your spools on the heated bed at 50c if you have nothing else. Some say make sure the steam has a place go.

“All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.”

I too need to rewatch.

These are what I have to hand currently. I’m hoping they’re up to the task of the calilantern measurements, but if anyone wants to weigh in, please do so.

OMG I love this.. do you also have a print for the filament feed similar to what they show here?

I think this may be my best DIY at least until I find I need more serious solutions. I do still need to find a drying solution..

Until I have a more serious printing setup (my entry-level Neptune 4 certainly doesn’t count), I think the individual rubbermaid containers are a better fit, but.. I certainly see a future in which I need to have bulk storage… good to know these are an option.

I too have been lustfully browsing the available selection of filaments… for now I know I need to learn how best to use my machine before diving into artistic prints with glorious filaments :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

It is very easy to get overwhelmed with all that is available. That is for sure! She does a lot of custom printing for customers on her 2 Bambu A1 printers so it all gets used. My stuff is more bulk buy of a few colors. Just finished running through 10 rolls of PET-CF getting stocked back up on printed parts. At the same time I have been through about 12-14 rolls combined of red/blue/gray and black for LR4 PLA parts. It comes and goes real fast lol. Ryan probably goes through 10 times as much as I do in a month lol

@zero_indexed

Here is the cheapest, quick and dirty way to dry filament in a pinch:

Drying filament on your build plate

It seems to work and you have all the bits at hand.

Mike B.

pfft… that’s less than 1 tote per printer

I had these hold at 10% for over a year

I used this cap for the filament feed

and the hygrometer mount from here

and the roller that @Jonathjon linked earlier

I’ve just realised have a problem. No, not the humidity thing - here’s a pic of my printer right now at 8:00 at night. I am reassured that the chamber temp, bed temp and room temp are all the same but I can’t figure why the nozzle is a degree hotter! (note we are going through a dry patch so 58% humidity inside is welcome!) , but that’s not the problem.

But here’s my problem-
I’ve counted 'em. I currently have fifteen dry boxes tucked in all sorts of nooks around the house, so that means at least fifteen spools of filament in addition to the open ones and new “stock” lying around my office.

I only have one printer surely that’s not normal? On another note - @Jonathjon how do you dry that dessicant? I have finally overcome that messy pouring it out of the plastic thing by making a heap of these - Filament Dehumidifier - #165 by bitingmidge

With this desiccant, how do you know when it needs recharging? Do you just recharge on a schedule?

I happened across these on amazon, anyone try anything like this with their desiccant?

I think you’ve identified your problem, and I don’t think it’s the amount of filament…

BTW, looks like my slicer’s default for this filament is16mm^3/s.

Not a bad number at all assuming its a .4mm nozzle on a stock hotend.

yes, everything so far is stock. I’m currently warming a spool on the bed while tweaking cfg params, then printing a new calilantern.
