Full size LowRider table base

Need a base for your fancy torsion box CNC table?

The rest of this thread is how this design came to be, if you scroll down you will see this unfold as I designed this in the forums.

This table gets secured on top, Parametric Table,

This all started with me needing a base for my new torsion box table…here is the original thread ,

"I have a maker’s block.

There is this fancy full sized CNC sitting in my shop on saw horses. The plan was to make a super fancy base with the CNC. Well I sketched a dozen or so and each time they just keep getting more and more simple. The more material you add the more wasted space you get.

You have a base you wish you made a couple of changes too, see something that looks fun to build?

For the most part my base is always material storage, vac storage, last time I had one pull out drawer, I think 3-4 would be nice, I will be using some sort of locking/folding wheel."

All the cabinets and countertops in my shop, including the main structure of my rolling table saw “wagon” came from my local Habitat ReStore. I’ve found really nice cabinets there for way less than the cost of raw materials.

Just put it on top of one of these lol

Switch out the t-track top for a nice, vacuum table top.

Plenty of room for a 200cfm vacuum pump under there

Can you make a modular interface between torsion table and base?

It totally makes sense to me you might start out with the table on saw horses, and then use the LR4 to build out your base.

Or, you may have existing base stuff you want to set your table on.

It would be really cool if the bases were sized for common stuff (e.g. use the LR table as an in/out feed for a DeWalt table saw)

Oh! That is a great place for my screw caddies! Why didn’t I think of that.

Shoot half the reason for me to build one is to get rid of some of my scrap pile!

Yeah, that is the game plan. Something fairly basic I can Link the Cad for and someone could tweak it and make their own.

The difference between a full sized table and a 1/4 sheet…side access. The quarter sheet, you can reach the entire surface from 2 sides. The full sheet you need 3 side access.

Drawers, vac and bucket, adjustable shelves for caddies, green is all material storage. I have a lot of scrap that might serve me better in one place nearest the machine that uses it. Drawers are at the front so the top one also serves as a desk surface when open.

Well it’s not exactly simple, not necessarily the cheapest option, and there isn’t much storage, but this was fun to build…

I love that, for sure.

This is exactly what my full sheet sits on… well the frame of it any way. I still need to finish it

I have a different one that is not finished

but it’s not for my LowRider.

Considered somewhere for pancake air compressor?

Plenty of roon under a full table. Making this one for me though and I don’t have one of those.

When I built the one for the LR3, now holding the LR4. I built it on top of cabinets. 3 down each side. With a 12” wide gap in the middle. So far 2 of the cabinets are filled with drawers. Best thing possible! Top one being only 2” deep and holds all my endmills. Not deep enough to lose stuff in lol. And the gap down the middle is perfect for storing longer boards out of the way.

Here is my incomplete setup

Well, mine is more finished… but still uinfinished. I got the one to make my portable table saw more stable, and I needed a router table…

I didn’t want to close it all up until I got my automated dust collection all worked out, but that’s been on hold for about 2 years… and it’s been almost a year since I’ve used any tool back here at all… so it’s kind of a mess at the moment… We just keep stacking things all over…

but you can see my fancy bit storage that I did before I had a CNC so I had to layout the holes by hand and drill them all with a drill press… multiple drawers worth…

1/2", 1/4", and 1/8" hole options

I have the plans for that table saw table too. The bit storage is impressive.

The timing on this is crazy! Has some interesting features. I am not sure I need the modularity, but seeing something like this helps with ideas.

I like the drawers, I planned on similar no slider style by maybe a few extra CNC joints wouldn’t hurt.

Sliding drawers (single and double depth), container shelves on adjustable pins, no joints yet still playing with the feel of it. Still need a strong platform, 2x2’s? Hopefully cut out a lot of the inner panels and some of the top for drawer parts and stuff. No need for everything to be solid.
