Europe - LR4 - Let's call it a everything I need to know?

Hello everyone! I’m Simeon and I’m from Bulgaria.

Hobby woodworker, sculptor/fine arts, car guy, self proclaimed hack garage engineer who thinks he’s technically literate.

I will try to keep things short and simple so I don’t fill the page with too much text, and I sincerely apologize If I’m asking questions which have been answered.

I’m 99% brand new to CNC and I want to finally jump and get into it by ordering the LR4 for the following reasons:

Full EU plywood sheet capability - Affordability - Seems like a big, active and understanding community - Want to try and make some money from one of my hobbies in my free time.

Some concerns and questions:

I want to order from V1E directly, as I read that ordering the Europe seller kit, the power supply cable has to be modified and that it voids the warranty of the LR4 (auto translated from HaWiWe website), which is concerning to me, otherwise I would love to order within the EU, for cheaper shipping and less traveling=less chance of delivery guys smashing things up.

My question is, as I’m from Europe, does that mean I inevitably will have differences and needed modifications? And if so, could all the possible ones be mentioned so I don’t have to find out hiccups when assembling, because if that’s the case, then ordering from the EU would save me a good amount in shipping, and just ordering a touch plate, and router bits from V1 would be better.

Next:

I have all the optionally listed parts checked for the LR4 kit, so If I understood correctly, the only things I need to source locally is the Makita 700 series router (Makita RT0702C works i guess?), 32mm pipe (I have no idea if different diameters would change some parameters or if just thicker is stronger and that’s it, but I opted the 32mm),
A table (I want to buy the G code for THIS table base and THIS table top, as I want to fill my new empty workspace with things built only with the LR4.)

Concerns, my new workspace floor is everything but level, with many deviations slopes and holes, mostly looks like the remains of a battlefield, I’m wondering what’s the cheapest temporary setup to CNC the Table and if it would be possible on such uneven surface, If not, maybe just giving the files for the workbench to a local CNC shop to just cut them for me, which would probably sting as I will have a CNC, or maybe just buy a 30-40mm thick MDF sheet and just shim the low spots, that way ill also have a nice place to assemble to LR4.

I’ve also added a touch plate, collet, and a most of the router bits available in the site as I also want to get into making frames for my art pieces, I can then use that MDF sheet to learn carving on it after the workbench/cnc table is finished.

I would also love to hear some opinions on what computers/laptops people are using for designing as I want to buy a laptop to use separately only for 3d designing and making files for the CNC.

Is there anything else I need to source separately, anything I’m missing?

I’m itching to start! I will be making videos of all the process and projects once I get the LR4, just have to clear my mind of the confusion I have as I’m not familiar the things I listed above.

Hey Simeon, I am HaWiWe. It’s the same for the V1 Kit, you also have to modify it and snip the cable. I just say it explicitly because EU laws are much stricter. Technically you also only void the warranty of the power supply. :slightly_smiling_face:

The kits I and V1 ship are identical, mine just comes with a EU plug.

Oh, my power supply is also 230V, Ryan’s 110V, so you’d need to buy a second one when getting the V1 Kit. :slightly_smiling_face:

/edit: I was told I was wrong, they re the same, just the plug is different! Apologies!

I will order from you then, so I just need to order separately a touch plate, cnc bits, make myself a table, find 32mm precision pipes and that’s it?

Everything else is included in your kit ready for assembly and I won’t have to source anything else separately?

You’ll also need a controller. You can buy the Jackpot at Elecrow. It’s a little cheaper than from V1 directly.

For the rails try Jabimetal.at, Präzisionsstahlrohr. Don’t use stainless steel that was welded, it’s never completely round.

Are the 32 mm rails more rigid then 30 mm? And are the 30 mm rails more rigid then smaller diameter?

Also, could you have 32 mm rails on the beam but 30 mm rail on the cnc table?

Doesn’t make sense to mix. You could, but makes it more complicated.

We have the same power supply. Just different plugs.

Oh, good to know, sorry! Thanks for the clarification, I didn’t even know there were supplies that could do 110V as well as 230V! :slight_smile:

In the US, we call those worldwide power supplies.

Lowest local grid that I’ve seen in a single phase wall outlet were AC mains in Japan, nominally 100V but I measured some at 98V.

Highest I’ve seen was in an old building in the UK at a bit over 240V.

For travelling, I carry some USB-C power supplies with me that I’ve verified can take all those voltages and frequencies of AC, and prefer that all the gear I carry can operate from those.

It also varies quite a lot depending on the grid supply/demand.
