I have been transferring the SD card to get files there but everytime I do I get a duplicate file. Its not really a big deal other than an annoyance to select the right one. Is there something I am doing wrong here?
Also, uploading to the SD card from my iPad while connected to the Jackpot has not worked for me. Is it best still to transfer the SD card? Regardless of being in a browser tab or in the pop up, it wont let me select a file to upload. Maybe an IOS thing?
Run $ss in the terminal and let us know what firmware version you are using. 3.8.0 updated a lot of stuff it terms of file transfer and should be good to go. I have not ever tried it on Mac stuff though.
Im on the original version that it shipped with. 3.7.something. I will try to update tonight. I tried the other night but either didn’t have a data micro usb or Mac isn’t playing nice. I wondered if updating would fix it. I suppose I should have tried first.
Surely I am doing something wrong with the update process. I have tried 6 USB cables, 3 browsers, a pc and a mac, and pulling the esp32 out and leaving it in powered on. It never shows up when I hit connect. Has to be operator error somewhere. Im pretty confident at least one of the USBs is for sure a data cable. Any ideas?
Let’s figure that out. Do you prefer PC or Mac? I’m going to guess PC since you listed that first.
Do this: Pull the ESP-32 out of the Jackpot.
In windows, open up device manager. Now plug the Jackpot in to a USB cable connected to your PC. A new COM port device should show up in device manager. Does it? If so, what is that device name listed as in device manager?
I prefer Mac actually, but I did what you said already and the device never showed up in the device manager regardless of cable. I do not see it in my system report on my Mac either. Tried a virtual machine for kicks and giggles and doesn’t show up there either. 6 cables and not one is data?
Earlier this year, I helped someone locally put a jackpot on a custom built diode laser machine.
They couldn’t get lightburn to work with their old controller, and I suggested a Jackpot.
Then, they were really frustrated that the jackpot didn’t work either.
I went over with one of my known good cables and it connected on the first try.
We then went through a literal box of his USB cables, and only one wasn’t bad/intermittent/charge only.
Not sure why you had such difficulty, but I’m really happy that you got it to connect.
I’ll be anxiously waiting to hear if the latest version fixes you SD card issues.
It gives me an error about the bootloader and then I hold the button down which switches it to the installing page. But after a minute or two it gives me this error. Let me hold it down longer maybe.
With a little practice, I learned when the ESP32 needed the boot button pressed to get it to successfully flash it. I’m on an M1 MBP. I’m not sure why, but it pretty consistently needed my help with the button press.
When I initiate install it says waiting for controller to enter boot. Then gives an error and suggestion to try holding the boot button. Which I do. And it switches to this screen.
Yeah, think something is going on with the web installer I had some issue this last week or so myself. I saw no changes in the repo but something is not as good.
The native tools should work that Jim Suggests.
I wonder if some backend package got updated. Only some of the boards used to need the boot button, now they all do and I had a few timeout as well. I will ask them on discord tomorrow.
I recently gave up on Chrome/Chromium for almost every use.
One of the last straws for me was the web installers for a variety of things that used to work no longer did.
Everything seemed to work just fine. I did have to hold the boot button down on every command. No biggie though of course. I will have to check tomorrow to see if this fixes the duplicate files and transfer issues. But either way Im updated! And I greatly appreciate it.
I looked long and hard for a cnc to build, this kind of thing right here is why I went V1E and never looked back. To my knowledge this community is the best. Period.
I think they based this one off the WLED installer and that one works flawlessly, so much better.
Ahwww, gonna make me cry!! I love being here, I really like trying to help solve problems, even better wis when smart guys like Jim hang out and just knock it out of the park all the time!
It’s the same for me as for Zach. I lurked a long time and debated what machines to build, but it was the community you’ve built here, Ryan, that made me decide first on the V1 community and then to start building V1 machines.
That’s the spirit! Buy you already know more than enough to contribute. Be exelent to each other, ask for help and offer it. Make cool stuff.
