Thanks, I did.
I wanted to register and to comment that this thread was/is a massive help to anyone who is looking to get the AD5M or anyone who has one already!
I fell out of love with my old Ender-3 as in the end i was spending more time fixing it that it actually doing any kind of printing, the AD5M is a massive step up for me and im loving how print and forget it actually is, straight out of the box its printing like a champ, i struggle to see any layer lines and it just prints so fast its still shocking me but putting a huge smile on my face ![]()
Thanks again for ALL the useful info in this thread and everyone who shares their views/feedback, so others like me can learn so much from. Doug im off to print your remake of the enclosure, wish me luck ![]()
Cool! Hope it goes great for you!!
FYI
DrA1ex just released a major update to Forge-X.
I may try it again.
I had reverted to stock as my A5M just wouldn’t play nice for me with the mod.
I’m using new version. So far, haven’t had any issues, finally tackling trying to level plate with screws, having a helluva time, keep getting a lot of the same numbers. Power loss recovery outside of stock is nice, but I’m sticking to stock for now, non-stock complicates some things beyond what I am willing to deal with currently.
Well… i was giving serious consideration to buying the A5M Pro, but got sidetracked by the Elegoo Centauri Carbon.
CoreXY design, same posted speeds as the FlashForge, a little pricier at the base, but comes with about everything that the A5M Pro does, at quite a bit lower price point. Enclosed, lights, camera, filters, fans.
Sitting next to the A5M.
Bear in mind I’m not using modded firmware on the A5M.
The FlashPrint utility leaves something to be desired. It doesn’t show layer #, just a % finished which leaves guesswork as to what layer is printing. The FF camera isn’t great, it has obvious scan issues (the print head appears slanted when moving fast) and the resolution js mediocre.
I like my colourful customized enclosure, though

So far, Ive noted that the Elegoo camera is higher res, and faster. Less blur, no scan issues. It has a wipe pad. It has a modestly larger print area (256mm^3) which just happens to be just large enough for a couple of projects that the A5M couldn’t quite handle.
I believe that the firmware is klipper based, but whatever. I get layer counts and video in the device tab of the slicer (based on Orca, which is what I use for the A5M)
It does not have the easy menu “load filament” – You get to heat up the hot end and tap the filament feed button, so there’s that.
So my takeaway on this is that the A5M might not be a special great deal, and that consumer level priced 3D printers in general are just getting better.
I still do not regret my purchase of the FlashForge.
Currently the A5M, Centauri Carbon, MP3DPv5 and MP3DPv4 are all running printing parts for a Christmas gift. Probably my highest rate of 3D printing I’ve ever done.
@SupraGuy Nice! Good to hear all the good points on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon!
I was seriosly just looking at the Carbon. The 320degree hotend opens up some other possibilities.
I have been trying to decide if I should try upgrading one of the Mp3DP’s to high temp, but it looks like each will become MMU machines. one with Tradrack and one with a HTLF. Printing Filamentalist V3’s for the HTLF version now.
Elegoo has also been promising an MMU upgrade for the Carbon, but they’ve backed off on that. Again.
Still for the features that it’s got, it looked like a great buy, and I’m not disappointed.
Fromnext is happening. There’s no doubt that Bambu are winning the consumer marketing game hands down. It seems that every “maker”, woodworker, carbuilder, or political commentator on YouTube has just been given a version of their latest and greatest - I suspect this is to take the sting out of the opposition’s tool changer versions being released along side their own this week.
A little over a year ago, I couldn’t see the need for me for any kind of multi material/multi colour capability. Now, well my LR4 isn’t happening until I can print at least TPU and PLA together! It might be another expensive year!
Hmmmm… What is going on in that head of yours again… ![]()
Prusa announced the mmu3 for the core one L for next year, so I’m not that optimistic to see the 4 soon…
Yes, they are implying that it’s not INDX. Reading between a few lines, I think that they’ve been working with Bondtech for some time (years) on INDX or the Prusa version of it, which should be at Formnext in preview form.
Bondtech said this in September.
Visitors at FormNext 2025 will see the latest version live, applied, and running. Everyone will get the first chance to pre-order from our webshop, with deliveries starting late Q1 2026. As soon as possible, after we reach the final shape of the smart toolhead, we’ll start sharing simplified geometries to allow implementation projects to flourish.
It probably suits me more than anything to be delayed until the first qtr of the year, because that means, all being well and if we have four legs between the two of us again, I will be ready for the fourth qtr!
Well the LR4 is a beautifully evolved design that truly reflects the work that went into it, but there are some little bits of polish that new technology might bring us! ![]()
I am pretty sure you‘ll have them done in time for the LR4 Pro release. ![]()
I am really excited for formnext, I really want that real multicolour.
