Not home to work on any of my projects but here are some pics of our journey from Port Fourchon, LA to Quonset, RI. We left Fourchon on 6/18 and will be arriving in RI tomorrow around lunchtime. Man it has been a LONG ride lol. Wasn’t able to get pics of the coast much. Just a little too far out to be able to see much in the photo. We did end up having to stop for some weather off of Perdido Key, FL which is 45 min from my house. So my wife and daughter drove down and got a pic of us jacked up from the beach. The weather in the Atlantic has been amazing. Never would have thought we would make it this far without getting shut down by weather (our max wave height for travel is 4’). I know this isn’t anywhere close to V1 or even CNC related but hopefully some of you will enjoy it anyways. (Blue water is from a little south of Tampa and some just before we went by the dry tortugas. The night pics are Miami. Weather was from off the coast of North Carolina about 70 miles north of Cape Hatteras)

Last pic is our current location with a dropped pin where we are headed. Going in we have to go under a bridge with 190’ of clearance and I have 245’ legs sticking up. Luckily there is 110’ of water under the bridge so I can lower the legs and pass under it. Should be a fun time lol. We are going to try and take a time lapse going though the bridge and if there is any interest I will upload and post it.

YES!

That whole system is so crazy. I am fascinated by your job, and the crazy tool you ride on to do it.

Will do! Hopefully we can get the angles and all right where everything can be seen. Worst case you won’t be able to see the top of the legs under the bridge but I’m sure we will get pics of that at minimum

Any questions you or anyone else has don’t hesitate to ask and I’ll explain any of it the best I can.

I will say it’s nice doing something so different. I’ve been working on these boats since 2002 and this is my first time out of the GOM. Hoping we stay up here for a good while. Always nice doing something different than the same ole same ole.

I have to admit I have watched several container ship timelapses on YT. It is so fascinating. I would enjoy it more knowing it came from someone I know.

So what is your actual a role on the boat? Or your job with the company? (Not sure which is the better question for your situation)

I am the Captain… aka fall guy. Anyone messes up it’s my fault lol.

Roger that. I will definitely upload and post it.

We will be making the passage though tomorrow morning and hopefully I’ll be able to upload the video tomorrow evening. Not sure how crazy things will get once we get jacked up at the dock

How big are your Z axis steppers?

That’s one… without the hydraulic brake or motor attached. Thought I had some better pics but I don’t right now. Will try to get some in the next day or 2. There are 10 of these per leg. Fully loaded we weigh 2274 long tons or 5,093,760 lbs. and we can Jack up to the top of the 245’ legs with that amount of weight.

Not the best pic (from shipyard last year) but gives you somewhat of an idea
