XY / YZ plate mismatch issue?

Weird -the holes appear to be offset by around 6mm give or take. Are both plates the same? I am sure @vicious1 Ryan will be along shortly to sort this out, but in the unlikely event you want to try to drill them yourself in the meantime, you can use one of hte plates as a template but centre the two rows of holes on the opening.

Well your project hasn’t got off to a particularly glorious start, but it’s certainly fixable easily enough…

This is crazy.

I am not sure how this could even happen. Let me look again.

This can happen as there is a tool change. I make these 12 at a time. That means there are 5 more bad sets out there?

Does this happen with the other YZ plate as well?

Agreed, it can’t really be the XZ plates those are a one op laser cut, far more likely the YZ plate. And the Yz plates do get a quick error check on each set but not the 16th holes, just the through cuts.

Frustration is okay, and understandable. Just take a second to think about it, I am a person that makes these. Mistakes can happen, everyone here is stunned because this has never happened before in the hundreds, or thousands I have made and sold. Sometimes things aren’t perfect, and I am sorry for that but I am sure you agree it was obviously not done intentionally. Just a mistake and as soon as I figure out what is actually wrong I will make it right.

I would have shown you the same picture, I even told you from your pictures I assumed you had it on backwards, facing the wrong way. The first few pictures you put up did not show enough for us to know exactly what was going on. This forum is full of people that like to make and fix things. Everyone has the best intentions here. Sorry it seemed to be some other way but that link was also an honest mistake with the best of intentions.

Again, I am sorry this is the first case of ever having a bad set of plate, through every single version of the LR3 plates ever. 99.9% of the time it is not my parts with the issue so we are working on that assumption.

as soon as I am sure of which part is messed up you will be sent replacements. I am trying to catch up after I emailed you the third time yesterday, I spent the rest of the day in the Emergency room dealing with a bad situation. I am sorry I did not immediately get back to you, I did tell you I was refreshing the forums waiting for more pictures and I am sorry I let you down, but I am sure you can understand why I did not get back to you until today.

This is the issue the rail corner should line up with the plate corner. It is very hard tell in any other photo as all your pictures have a almost fish eye distortion to them.

Okay I went through the entire thread. Thank you all for getting in 22 responses while I was having a bad evening.

Bryan-
1-Can you please check to see if both plates are bad or just the one. Showing both plates with the 16th inch hole facing up from a bit further away will let us get a look at them if you are not sure. If they are both messed up I will send two new ones, since you painted them hopefully it is just one, so you do not need to do them both.
2-I will need your order number so I know where to send the replacement and figure out what batch these are from.
3-Again I am sorry this happened, it is an honest mistake and I have several checks in place obviously I need to add one more. I know the set this happened on, I assumed, I played it too close and hit a screw. I assumed the first 4 sets where still good and the other two where bad. It turns out it hit the screw because I hit something else beforehand. First production error ever, and again my apologies.

Welcome to the forum @bry2002bmw!

Sorry to see you’re experiencing a frustrating build issue with your plates.

Great seeing so many people quickly jumping in to help root cause and help get you back on track. Love how many curious problem solvers we have here.

@vicious1 thanks for the support and sorry for the emergency!

I am at the office today so can’t provide pics of the other plate but can confirm I couldn’t get the fitment to work on that one either. I have been in the manufacturing (NC included) industry for a long time and know sh#t happens unfortunately.

It would be great to get replacements if you can.

Order 22948 for the mdf plates.

Thanks,

Bryan

Also, sorry about this, I misread your preceding post and took it as “reported your post for review”

Pictures of the other plate, offset is around 22mm and 38mm from hole center to cutout edges

Bummer it looks like I will ship a set out tomorrow. sorry for the hassle again.

Can you show me both in the same shot please screw holes up , wide shot so I can see all the edges. Might as well take the rails off. I am trying to figure out exactly what happened so I can figure out if I need to send some emails out. If they are different something really odd happened, if they are the same I know what happened…for the most part.

Here are the pics, 1/16th holes don’t appear to be fully symmetrical in how they are offset/moved.

I’m going to hazard a guess…

These are laid out so that the left and right plates are opposite ends up on the sheet. Ie: the mirrored face is either the top or the bottom.

This then makes some sense.

Both sets of screw homes seem moved towards the back, looks like 3-4mm, and both sides about the same. If they are in line that way while being cut this would be the same offset. The vertical offset would look different in this case as a positive offset on one side would become a negative offset in the other, so this makes sense if they are laid out like this when cutting

Edit: pictured are the very first set I cut, from the beta project. The sharp-eyed will see that it has not even the access holes for a screwdriver quite yet. (And an extra set of pilot holes on one in completely the wrong place.)

Hello and welcome. I’m sure that Ryan will work to make it right if the YZ plates are incorrect.

Re this:

That would have been a license violation …

Winner!

Bryan, that is literally your set in the picture that will ship out today.

skip in the X…I think the router hit my welder, or I hit it with the welder while I was reorganizing some things while it was cutting. That means worst case here is the might be one more set of bad plates out there. My welder sits just to the left of the above picture and I pulled it out to put the cover back on while that was cutting. Stupid mistake on my part, it wasted the rest of that board and killed a fresh endmill.

Bright side to all of this…best business practice suggests I stop cleaning up the shop!

I’ve apparently practically mastered this best practice!

Much have you to learn, young padawan…

(Actually trying to get this cleared put, it’s the corner where stuff that might still have usable left over material gets tossed. Most of it… apparently isn’t.
