Wiring / Touchplate / sourcing correct parts

Hi guys, I’m sourcing the last few parts needed, just had a few questions, mainly regarding wiring.

Since I’m sourcing locally as I’m not in US/EU, I’m using local supplier and if nothing local then trying Aliexpress/Elecrow.

For wiring - is there a run down of wires needed overall? I bought the jackpot CNC from Elecrow but don’t think it comes with wires, I ordered stepper motors and everything else all separate basically, the only parts that come with wires as far as I can tell are stepper motors (which I need to extend anyway).

So for wiring - is this something I can do myself as I go with a roll of AWG22 (?) some crimps and some connectors, & are all the connectors to the Jackpot board going to be the same style?

For the stepper motor extenders, the shop and amazon links show different style connectors, so I’m unsure which is correct there.

XH2.54 is the chunky white one right? This connects to the chunky white connector from the stepper motor? Then the other end - should this be MX2.54 dupont (thin black) to connect to the Jackpot board? Both ends 4 pin. Also, is 1.5m the ideal length/minimum for the stepper extenders?

I found this thread when searching for help but came away more confused :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Also I found a touchplate for CNC sold locally - wondering if it is usable on the Lowrider or if they’re specific to machines/programs?

I added a photo of the options available in the listing, there looks like two types.

If it helps, the instructions in the listing state:

”Set the tool operating instructions on the software, or directly enter the instructions (Instructions: G90G21G38.2Z-50F100; G92Z1.6; G0Z20). (Different software interfaces are different, but the instructions are the same.)”

Cheers

For the touchplate, a piece of aluminium foil also works, so yes, those should work.
Cables should be thin still, don’t choose cables too thick or they won’t fit the sideplates. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks, I ordered the touchplate.:+1:

Looking through the docs and at board pictures, I’ve made out these are the wire connections, is this correct?

  • 24v power supply wired to jackpot. (Fan wires (24v) also to same points if adding)
  • 5 x stepper motors wired to stepper motor sockets on jackpot (MX2.54 dupont 4 pin) - for this the stepper wires need to be extended (150-200cm)
  • 5 x endstop wires, with MX2.54 dupont 2 pin connections to jackpot board and spade connectors to the microswitch endstops - any AWG recommended?
  • Touchplate connects near the endstop connections on jackpot board - do I need any extension here?

& a tentative.. that’s the lot.

Seems a lot simpler now it’s all there written down - am I missing anything?

22 or 24 I think? I am in the EU though, I took cables for train sets (with two wires though, black and red):

Another quick wiring question. To save me the hassle of crimping dupont connectors, could I buy ready made cables, then just connect to create longer lengths?

So for endstops - I can get the 2 pin dupont wires in 30cm lengths, then I’d use wire connectors to connect to longer wires ending in the spade connectors/endstop. (See photos below)

Any problems or issues that could arise doing this?

You absolutely can use ‘pigtail’ cables with the connectors already crimped. Wire connectors have a smallest and largest size cable they are designed for, so long as the wire you’re using is within that bracket it’s fine.

Awesome, thanks.
