Which ESP32 is the right one - Jackpot board

Hi, just building up my LR v4 and need to source the jackpot board from elecrow. I now want to buy the required ESP32 but I’m struggeling with choosing the right one.

The link that Ryan provides gives me a selection of 4 variants:

There are also other cheaper ESP32 boards (third party supplier, like Az Delivery). Would they also work?

Welcome! That link is to an official Espressif board. That should be the correct one. If you look at the picture, it should say ESP32-WROOM-32E on the main chip.

I’m assuming that you’re outside the US and purchasing one from the V1E store isn’t practical?

I can’t personally vouch for the other cheaper ESP32s.

@vicious1 can Elecrow not make your V1 ESP32 as well?

Working on it, still keeping an eye on a few things.

Yes, you are right. I’m coming from germany, that’s the reason why I ordered at elecrow.

But thanks for your hint, that the chip must be WROOM-32E.

Together with the drivers and the ESP it’s nearly cheaper to order from Ryan.

Any suggestions for a Jackpot compatible esp32 board that supports an external antenna?

I use these…

You want the ones with the “U” suffix on the part number… ESP32-WROOM-32U

And I use these antennas…

As long as you don’t cover the ESP32 with wires, you may not need the antenna version. I would try that first.

I can’t vouch for this non-official version, but it should be the ESP32-WROOM-32U variant.

I have some official Espressif ones here if you would like. You can use my v1-esp32 link in the shop and email me your order number and I will swap them out. You will still need to find the antenna you want though.

Those really cheap esp’s are very hit an miss. I have 100 here that do not work well enough for the jackpot.

Actually, I should try them since we added the pullup resistor. I wonder if that was the issue.

I’ll trade you some rubber ducks at 10:1

I’m toying with the idea of a full metal enclosure, hence my interest in an external antenna. Whether or not I actually go that direction remains to be seen.

The ESP 32 boards I have are 30-pin boards. They are marked ESP-WROOM-32. I’ve re-ordered the only -E’s with 38 pins that I can find on Amazon in the UK. Amazon.co.uk

It seems I mis-counted the number of pins in the picture. They have arrived with 40 pins. Can’t find any 38-pin ESP-WROOM-32E’s here in the UK. What is the difference between the E and D boards? I can get D’s

The E is just the latest revision. My Jackpot originally came with a D.

I also ordered a naked jackpot from elecrow when your shop was out of stock. But I realize now that I want to order plates from you. Can I also email you and buy the esp32, drivers and heatsink to fully equip the one already on its way when it gets here? …to Sweden

If you haven’t placed an order yet, those items are in the shop for you to add already

That TMC2209 link is for v1.2. My Jackpot came with v1.3 which I don’t see separately in the store. I don’t know if that matters or if the version listed in the store is accurate.

@vicious1 to clarify.
