What Rail Diameters are available near you, outside the US?

Thank you.

So the conduit you have has an Outside Diameter of 25mm? What size is it sold as (typically it is sold by inside diameter)?

If itā€™s anything like here/Aus, conduit is sized by the OD. This discussion here indicates that the UK is likely the same:

The example given in method 2 mentions 25mm conduit with 1.5mm wall thickness giving 22mm ID and then using that as part of the formula for how full the conduit can be.

It looks like they also use the same weird mix of sizes for conduit, that we do. 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm.

Thatā€™s kinda nice because it allows mixing and matching between light duty, medium duty and heavy duty conduit and fittings because all the conduit is sized by OD and the fittings are sized by the ID to match the OD of the conduit, etc.

Here in Spain, you can find 32mm EMT easily. It cost about 14ā‚¬ for 3 meters long.

Awesome thank you!

Thatā€™s super interesting. Thatā€™s 32mm with a +0/-0.4mm tolerance range, so itā€™s directly equivalent to 31.8mm tubing with a +/- 0.2mm tolerance, which means itā€™s basically 1.25" tube.

Iā€™m weirdly fascinated by this situation, even if itā€™s probably a bit horrific for Ryan

@vicious1 If I was able to get hold of some 30mm tube, approx how much length might I need? I have a discount at a metal store and I might as well get everything I possibly might need - not trying to pin you down to anything, a bit of 30mm tube will always be useful even if nothing comes of your plans, but are we talking sheet width 4ā€™ or maybe length 8ā€™?

On that same note, Iā€™ve an itch to build a printer, would 4 or 5mm aluminium be best (or some other but whole mm only it seems) for the cncā€™d flat parts on the v5? Everyone seems to be using 3/16" which is about 4.75mm so somewhere between what I have available to order.

Thanks for your help - donā€™t worry if you canā€™t/wonā€™t answer about the tube! Cheers

5mm, I have some flat sets to add to the shop soon if you do not want to cut your own.

Hi Ryan, would you consider making a 50mm/ 100mm tube version? Iā€™ll happily rebuild my Lowrider V3 as a test machine if youā€™d like (itā€™s currently sized to cut a 4x8 sheet). I know 100mm will be massive and heavy but thatā€™s kind of what Iā€™m going for. Completely understand that it will be a test machine (I have 2 Chinese 4x8 machines that run my paid work, so this will just be for fun).

Iā€™m thinking it would be like a rigid rider. Will mount the rails directly to a steel table and use steel side plates etc.

Iā€™m based in South Africa and 100mm stainless and mild steel tube is very easily available. Itā€™s used for car ports very often

Picture of my Lowrider V3 before it was finished. I unfortunately got some good deals on some second hand industrial machines so the lowrider got shelved. Iā€™d much rather rebuild it that sell it off.

Sorry, there is another version in the works but it will not be that large.

In France, you can easily find those in ā€œhome depotā€-like stores:

Steel tubes, 2m/2.5m/3m lengthes: 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 50mm

Note: We also got this strange octogonal shaped 40mm or 60mm tube that could be very interesting to directly bolt the struts onā€¦

Those look weird and not really stable.

Maybe a 10Ā¾ā€ dia. by 5/16ā€ wall tube would do? Iā€™ve always been impressed by the stability of the oneway big gun.
