I have been using my laptop connected to the SKR board to run my CNC. It has been working ok with some minor wiring issues, but I have been able to fix everything so far. It has been a real learning experience!
I want to move my laptop out of the garage, load the files to a thumb drive and print using TFT screen. I notice that the screen has an adaptor for an sd card and the SKR board has adaptors for both a thumb drive and a mini sd card. My laptop doesn’t accept sd cards, only standard usb connections. I loaded the files onto a thumb drive and plugged it into the SKR board. This didn’t work!
The other issue I have is the screen saying that no printer is connected on startup. How do I get the CNC connected?
There is another post somewhat similar to this that helped a little. Evidently the usb connections on the SKR board do not work with the TFT screen? Only the card port on the TFT screen is recognized? If that is true?
I have never user the laptop connection (my personal laptop is a mac) I have only used the thumb drive. If i remember correctly you have to switch the mode of the skr like holding down the button or something. sorry im bot more helpful!
Check the baud rate setting in the screen. I don’t drag my laptop back and forth to the garage, but instead use a thumb drive. It plugs into the tft screen. Much easier
Whoops…hit the screen in the wrong spot. To continue….
Only 3 of 4 pins were engaged. Once this was fixed the ‘no printer attached’ message disappeared and the card slot on the TFT now works. The thumb drive on the SKR still does nothing but with the card slot on the TFT working I can now use my computer in a warm space rather than the garage.
The lack of a card slot on my computer was much more difficult to resolve, but I got an adaptor working once I realized the usb sockets on the computer dock would not work with the card adaptor. I needed to ditch the computer dock and plug the adaptor directly into the computer
Interesting……! The ‘box’ I printed to hold my SKR and TFT only has a usb connection for the SKR board, the one that doesn’t work. I checked the TFT and there is a usb connection but no opening in my box to access it! See pictures.
Well, that’s the usb port I use all the time. Personally, I’d break out the old dremel and make an opening for the usb port. Again, just my two cents, but it works well for me
Glad you got it going! I had started using the sd card, but had two fail in a short period of time. Went to a usb drive and haven’t had an issue since. (Not counting the one that ended up in the washing machine… lol)
i’m going to use the cd card for now and print out a new cover for the SKR and TFT with the thumb drive slot. At least my card slot is working for now…the garage is cold!
