I have a MPCNC which I hadn’t used for a couple of years. When I fired it up I discovered a lot of the 3printed parts had turned brittle (the belt tensioned blocks were the worst -turned to dust on the first homing of the axes) so I set about reprinting. Once that was done and reassembled I tried again & discover one of the y steppers was dead. I ordered a couple of new steppers and thought I might as well grab the JP3 too.
Is there a guide or write up on what I should be doing to get it (The Jackpot V3) configured correctly before I blindly destroy something ;-). Am I supposed to configure the parameters of the Steppers into a config file? Link to docs explaining the process would be fab.
Steppers almost never go bad. More likely would be a bad connection in an extension cable or a blown driver in a controller (though Rambo boards are really tough as well.)
You’d be well served to troubleshoot things regardless of whether you want to upgrade to a jackpot.
First troubleshooting step: Bust out a DMM and compare the coil A/B resistance with your problem stepper circuit against one that is workinc correctly.
Regarding Jackpot, you can set the current by editing the config.yaml file. The defaults are good for most machines, though.
Most likely the default settings would be fine for you ‘out of the box’.
That’s what I did, I compared the against a working one.. radically different so I didn’t continue trying to get it going properly… …. I had redone all the DuPont connectors all the way back to the control board, when that didn’t help I soldered the joins. Then I pulled the multimeter out.. should have done that in the first place.lol
