Has anyone ever thought of or tried to integrate two LR4s onto the same cnc table to reduce cut time? Probably need custom firmware.
Not exactly what you asked for, but one step in the direction. ![]()
We had some pie-in-the-sky discussions about this at RMRRF. Nothing concrete in terms of implementation. We also kicked around the idea of dual cores on one beam, times two LR4 beams (Four tools on one table).
The reality is that an independent machine controller would be needed to run each LR4, and coordinating between them is a tall ask.
It would be a fun thing to show.
I suspect we’ll see a proper toolchanger on LR4 well before we see something formally released that is multi-core or multi-machine per table.
This made me think of @jamiek’s video on two tool carriages for an LR3 being controlled by Marlin: https://youtu.be/m9SWaXowaww?si=N7hpquYNV3pO0pDD
Would only be of benefit when you’re trying to cut something really big, really fast, and you’ve only got one to do / only got space for one big table.
The easiest way to get close to this without teaching two routers to stay out of each other’s way would be to take your 8x4 table, fit it with one rail, and split its area into two half-length routers when you want throughput, and park one out of the way when you need the whole area for one job.
Would involve no technology development; I suggest it because this isn’t my area of expertise and hence I couldn’t do the tech development if I wanted to!
