Total cnc noob attempted build

Did you find the plans for this? I would like to build one too. That would be a lot of fun.

…. error post

No, I was going to just make a custom one myself to fit in our current target frames at the range.

My plan was originally to use an arduino/pi to work actuators, but the cost quickly spiralled so I am going to do as in the video, with a slider and string. I may use something like a sewing thread holder to allow a partner to pull straight rather than someone at the side. I will also slightly angle where the clays are stored, so as to not release more than one at a time, and a funnel effect at the bottom to catch the smashed ones ( or more likely, the ones I miss )

I also am considering a french cleat for mounting, and either angle that, or have a bit of wood at the bottom to make it slightly angled so the clays don’t fall forward and out. I intend to use rabbit clays.

The nails in the video are a bit of a risk to me so I will use wooden dowels, and to help it last a bit longer use a 20mm ply, with a thin sheet with pre drilled holes to be inserted as sacrificial board.

I need to experiment with the software to see how to get the holes all ligned up and get a clay to measure the gaps.

Once I do all this I am happy to document it here so people can see the project and how I overcome issues, because I imagine there will be mistakes on the prototype.

Something like this.

How long will this last if you are putting holes in it regularly?

Im not sure, but its for a 22 only. From reading online they last about 6 months, but thats why I want a sacrificial board in front of the main part. Once I have the design, it wont be hard to remake parts on demand.

OOOooooooo

tbh I run mac as my daily ( its basically linux anyway ) but the newest update has really put me off it. My cnc surface laptop runs on windows  just for vectric really, but the main PC is arch. More distros are moving towards arm64 and mac silicon support, I have tried arch, ubuntu, fedora, FreeBSD and such and must say, ubuntu seems a clear winner to date. We shall see how things progress.

so, I am almost finished my last project of the barrel lid - its slow going due to ill health. I am holding off on the clay one, but have a few other vcarve type ones I want to do. I shall hopefully have this new software in time to test with these more interesting projects.
