Total cnc noob attempted build

Just enter your address in the store, it calculates the correct shipping.

Eh, I lied, it’s 32€… -_- Sorry, that’s not a good deal any more I guess. Stupid Brexit.

Yeah I just checked, and customs will search and add on at least £20-30 ontop from experience :frowning:

I posted an eeprom reprogrammer for tricore and such recently to Sweden iirc. £300 I charged posted. The poor bloke got a £250 charge for import, handling and such as it was from the uk :frowning:

I think the eu hate us

Do you cut them yourself?

No, they won’t because it’s DDP, I am paying everything in advance with DHL.

No. For some the holes, others come complete. Cutting them myself would not be financially viable.

Well, got some done today, and realised I had ordered the wrong 16t pulleys ( or the wrong ones were sent, I have yet to check ) But so far so good. I did have an issue with 1 captive nut ( I hate captive nuts tbh ) but its on past the nylok and is just an axle anyhow so it should be fine. Fun and games

My aluminium came today so I used the printed ones as a template.

If you consider doing this, with a hacksaw, my advice is don’t! Arms killing me and I’ve only rough cut 1 so far.

32€ shipping including taxes doesn’t sound too bad now, eh? :face_savoring_food:

They look great though! Keep it up!

It never entered my mind… 1000 times whilst dulling 4 hacksaw blades… honest!

I’ll get there eventually  I’m going to clamp the printed parts to the metal ones and use a drill press to align the holes.

I take it the logo cutouts serve no real purpose other than look cool?

6m of 30mm tubing coming tomorrow, hopefully they leave it as I’m shooting, then I need to figure out an old table/workbench. My new 16t pulleys should arrive Friday, but I’m working and shooting again in a comp sat so might be next week until I get anything done.

I’m ridiculously excited more about the build completion than actually making anything with it currently.

Correct. :slightly_smiling_face:

Building it is quite fun.

For the first build I tried to save money where I could.

Now that I am working in an okay paid job I often think about how much time it would take and whether it wouldn’t be cheaper to just buy it (except when I’m doing stuff for fun).

I try to save, lost my decent job due to illness. A lot of these projects are to keep my mind active where my body isn’t so great now tbh. I’ll get there

Isn’t at least one of them a convenient access hole for assembly/maintenance?

I’ve never used it for anything. :slightly_smiling_face:

The large round hole on the X Max side is for inserting the M5 nut into the brace if you forget it. As long as you put it in before you’ll never need that hole.

I was going to drill that but may not bother if I know. I just meant the logo shaped holes

Right arms like a teenage boys today, absolutely killing me! Got 1.5 rough cut tho

Yeah logos are just to look good. Not at all needed. And as long as you remember the M5 nut you are good. And even if you forget, you just have to take it back off of the brace, 3 screws and you can insert the nut.

Fun and games today, finished my head unit ( or core as you call it )

Broke one of my side parts for the wires tho …. Grrrrr…. I’ll likely epoxy them in.

Also realised I underestimated the amount of drive belt needed, as I upped size :see_no_evil_monkey::man_shrugging::rofl:

Pipe also arrived, should have enough for a long bed now!

Forgot to say, whoever designed this is an absolute genius. The work and time and skill that’s gone into making this a more or less simple project is astounding. Hats off to them!

Ryan’s design work is really something. The more you study these parts- externally, internally, and how they fit as a system is remarkable. He’s here on the forum as @vicious1 . Ryan = V1E. The design, the operation of the business, building this community. All the rest of us are just community members basking in the awesomeness of what we’re creating and doing with these machines.

Exactly how I felt. Printed and thought cool… but on assembly you realise just how much thought and designs gone into it! Insane it’s free tbh.

Bit more progress….

I’ve noticed the ends have space for extra limit switches. I didn’t see anything in the documentation ( but I am half blind in fairness ) - are these a non-required extra? New belt also ordered.

That’s not for extra switches, that’s alternative mounting points.

In some uses cases it can be preferable to have the lowrider home to other corners, for example if you want y to be the short axis in CAM or if the machine is in an awkard corner.
