Tool Mount Dimensions

Is there a drawing with measurements for the Tool Mount?

How do I open step or X_T files? I am still learning, any chance a simple pdf can be uploaded or a JPG?

The drawings are there with dimensions, you can just make it from scratch.

Those files are parasolids any CAD program should be able to open them.

I looked at the drawings on thingiverse and either there is a dimension missing or I am missing something. Unfortunately, I cannot open the parasolids file with any software I have and google did not reveal a linux solution, so I can only go by the dimensioned drawings on thingiverse. I am trying to make an openscad model and cannot determine where to place the tabs on the circle. By overlaying the STL on my parametric model, I can get it pretty close and figure the angle between the tabs is somewhere around 64.2 degrees, but I cannot figure out what it is exactly. Does anybody know either the angle between the tabs or the distance between them, ideally for the non-offset J-ToolMount.stl file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

According to Fusion’s import of the STP file, the angle is 150° and the distance between the creases of the tab and the arc is 37.067mm.

Thank you for measuring the distance. I probably did not explain well what I was really looking for or which angle I meant. The 150° angle between the tab faces is in the drawing. I meant the angle of the pie wedge given by connecting the tab attachment points to the center of the circle. Based on your measurement this is 2asin(0.537.067mm/34.8mm)=64.359°. This is for the part that is offset by 0.2mm from the tool mount with R=34.8mm. I think the 4mm bolt hole axis distance along the tab face is specified for the tool mount part that bolts to the conduit, so I was looking for the distance or angle for that part, not the part that is offset by 0.2mm.

Maybe it’s OCD, what is bothering me is that neither the angle nor the distance are a round number (I even checked in inches). So, I guess what I was really trying to figure out is the third constraint used to design the part that bolts to the conduit, given the radius R=35mm and the angle between tab faces of 150°. There has to be a third round number somewhere, either the angle of the pie wedge, the distance between the two points you measured in Fusion, or the height along the normal to the line connecting the two points. The closest round numbers for the three values are 37mm, 64° and 5.25mm, respectively.

I think parts made with either one of the three rounded numbers will probably fit well enough based on intersecting them with the ToolMount.STL file. I just wanted to know which one is the right one, mainly to get the bolt hole axis in the right spot, as it appears to be 4mm from the non-offset part if I understand the drawing correctly. I suspect it is the 37mm distance that was used as the missing constraint for the original design.

 

Using the STL model, I agree that the tool holder mount holes are 4mm offset from the lip of the arc on the tool mount. As to the other information, I think I follow you now. Perhaps this is what you are looking for:

What CAD program do you have that can not open the files? Those are the most basic files used all the time. Did you try import, or open?

As for the numbers I am not clear what you need. Remember these fit 3 sets of different sized machines, round numbers are not the requirement here. I designed the 23.5mm version, the other two just had to work. The mount is designed as an offset of the tool mount so the numbers are all kinds of wonky. I went for minimal, not round numbers.

Yyou should be able to get all the numbers you need from the two drawings on thingiverse. If you make a drawing and use all those dimensions no others should be needed. If you do put up a picture of what you want.

I am using openscad on linux. I can import the STL and overlay my design, but I don’t know of any linux program that will open parasolid.

I was looking for the non offset numbers for the tool mount so I could offset my part from the tool mount myself. My thinking was that the tool mount numbers are probably the round ones and the bolt hole offset is measured from the mount, not from the offset tool holder. My bolt axes are slightly off.

I think the drawings on thingiverse lack one constraint. They have the radius, the angle for the tabs, and the offset of the bolt hole axis, but not the distance between the two points where the tabs connect to the circle.

I think the forum software lost my previous reply. Your drawing is exactly what I was looking for, the distance between the tabs or the angle is what I was missing. Except in your drawing, the diameter is shown as 70.5mm instead of 70mm. I will try your numbers tonight and see if the holes line up correctly. Thank you very much!

Is the diameter of 70.5mm also correct? The thingiverse drawing shows R35mm not R35.25mm.

No, My drawings are correct.

You really should find a program that can ope .X_T it is a universal file format. Openscad is a scripted builder probably the only one that can’t open it.
