SW VA V5 with a DragonBurner, DragonCutter and Filament sensors on the toolhead

I do have 4 of the moons large 0.9 degree steppers if anyone wants them. I was going to put them in the shop next week (spring cleaning here for me I have all sorts of random stuff I have tested or bought to test and never used).

Take my money, where am I clicking, GT2 10mm Belt ā€“ V1 Engineering Inc  ?

No I got genuine gates belt ($$$$) but I am pretty confident the knock off belts are just as good. I have some knock off here to test very soon, just to verify.

Guessing $$$$ are overkill for the CNCs, and just a very nice to have for the printers? The regular olā€™ belts you have are more than good enough, ignoring fussy pants people like me?

No point for CNC that I can tell, Althoughā€¦I might have something to announce about that soon.

Side note, my qidi plus 4 still has some ripple as well it is just higher frequency (1.5mm belt). It is very subtle though. Really makes me wonder why is shows in some printers more than others. Might be time to go to chain or something.

I thought maybe you did. The pictures did not seem to match the BOM.

I may put 16T on the Z Axis and the 20T on the XY.

Rack and pinionā€¦

Frame pieces cut. Measured out so that i would be able to try both front and rear belt configurations.

Made the decision to just pick up new 1.8dgree steppers. Also got a full set of 20T drive pulleys.

Control:
I am going to go with the Manta boards again on this one. I am currently running a Manta M8P v1.1 with a CB1. Since this is supposed to be the super fast printer and have color changing on it I am trying to decide if the V2 M8P board is the better way to go. Also I want to use a CB2 board on it to increase processing power.

Orā€¦ Is my current setup fine for this printer. The V2.0 M8P board has a MUCH faster processor but they dropped a CAN port off the board. I am going to be using the EBB36 again and will need a CAN port for the Control board on the Tradrack too.

Will the CB2 on a M5P be fast enough? How much difference does the MCU processor speed matter?

Edit for some info.
Manta E3EZ/M5P/M8P v1.1 64Mhz
Manta M8P V2.0 550Mhz
SKR Pro 168Mhz

(free advice) If the new manta has the pi5 compute then Id say get it. They are so fast!

Be aware though that computing is cheap enough now that either way is sufficient for moving motors. If the compute processor was the speed limiter, then there wouldnt be any reason to discuss this, but it is not what keeps the printer from printing fast these days. That is a thermal conductivity, power, and acceleration problem. If the price adder is reasonable for you then go for it. The new manta at 550 MHz is almost 10x the otherā€¦ Wow.

Absolutely do not put a CB1 on thereā€¦ lol

JJ and I both struggled with ours.

Mine is better with the CB2, but sometimes we still get Klipper CAN errors, and itā€™s hard to work out if itā€™s because the CB2 is still underpowered.

I changed some settings to try to make mine betterā€¦ but itā€™s definitely way better with the CB2.

If I had to do it again, Iā€™d probably get a different board where I could use a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5.

My current setup with the M8P 2.0 with CB2 and CAN just isnā€™t as solid as I want it to be.

It doesnā€™t happen that often, but I do from time to time get print failures due to CANā€¦ and I donā€™t like the uncertainty of it

It ā€œshouldā€ work in it. I was thinking I would run the CB2 for now. My CB1 works great in the existing Mantaā€™s (I have a M4P, E3EZ and and M8P) so far.

I think trying it out and then swapping in a CM5 later makes sense to me.

Just my two cents:

Iā€™ve played a little with 0.9 degree steppers on my K1 Max trying to get rid of the VFAs. My issue I later figured out was that my belts were WAY too tight and were inducing the GT2 belt pattern into my prints.

There were VFAs that typically were at certain speeds. With the LDO 2504MAC (0.9 deg / 2.5A rated) with a 16T pulley I still had to run them faster than 150mm/s. With the 2504AC (1.8deg /2.5A rated) I only had to stay above 100 mm/s.

I also installed a Manta M5P with CB1 on the K1 Max and had too many stutters when the printer was making G2/G3 moves. Although Klipper can run on 512MB of RAM, the CB1 just couldnā€™t keep up with the 1 GB it had. The CB2 wasnā€™t out at the time, so I installed a CM4 and didnā€™t have a single issue after.

I have to agree with a previous comment though, itā€™s simpler to get the octopus/pi4-5 up and running than dealing with a possible issue with the CM/CB, BUT only if that board has all of the features youā€™ll need. Iā€™ve read too many posts about the M8P v2 canbus not working at all, so Iā€™d stay away from those too.

I actually have can bus running on my M8P with CB1 will no issues. Dont get me wrong, it took a lottle to get it going but no issues since.

Do you have the v1.1 or v2? I had no issues really with the M5P other than having to find the Armbian build for the CB1 which made it operational vs the BTT GitHub image which used Debian and wouldnā€™t boot. If anyone would like to use the M5P I can assist where needed, but I havenā€™t used the M8P yet.

I am running the 1.1 on my V4. I had some of the mentioned CAN bus problems but did an update with the newest release from BTT and they have gone away completely. Buss Timeout.

I have learned that you need to run the bus at 1000000 vs 250000 to get them to work right.

I ordered the V2 and a CB2 the other day. Now I find that the USPS is not accepting packages from China so who knows what will happen. I also ordered some extra can cables, the CEB to add the extra CAN port(s) that I will need for the full build and the BTT MMU board with the 3x drivers for my TradRack.

If things get too held up, I will probably rob the E3EZ from my ender 3 to get it up and running temporarily.

Sounds like a fun build! Iā€™ve only seen a few videos of the tradrack but think itā€™s beautiful, let me know how it pans out! I almost built a K3 but decided I didnā€™t need another printer since I have 5 now. Hence, I found something I did needā€¦a CNC router

This one is my 6thā€¦ I AM giving the two hypercubes to my son to help him keep up though

And one day I will actually finish the LR3!

What do you cut your v5ā€™s Aluminum parts and ply/hdpe/poly enclosure panels with?

The plates are all cut on my CNC PM-25 milling machine. There is a picture up in the first few posts. The panels will happen after I get the LR3 finished up. I have some ACM Sheets for the sides and bottom and some 1/4 polycarbonate for the front for a door.
