Strut svg import on Fusion360

Hi, I tied to create the strut plate based on the svg that is provided on vector76.
But I have an issue with the scaling if I import that svg into Fusion360.

Q1: Does someone know the correct scaling factor?
Q2: Is there an easier way, like dxf file, which can directly imported by Fusion360 on right scale?
Q3: Any other simpler way?

Thx in advanced!

Does the vector76 site tell you the size that it is expected to be?

Typically I think in the past, I’ve just measured the actual size after import and compared that to the expected size and created a scaling factor that way, then import it again.

Here’s a previous conversation we had a long time ago about it

I would maybe suggest cutting these 2 pieces in Estlcam. It is free to download and test out. There is tons of information here about Estlcam. The strut plates are a pretty simple cut, I know I am suggesting new software which you are not familiar with but Estlcam is quite easy to get the hang of and again, certainly for this one cut, it would be very quick.

I only suggest this because I have fought Fusion and their svg import nonsense for a long time. Mike’s scaling will certainly work, I just personally don’t always trust Fusion to do it right.

You can also use estlcam to import the SVG and export a dxf if you really want to use fusion.

Or jamie may be able to export as something else he usually programs his stuff in openscad.

Importing svg’s into any program and having size issues is usually a ,atter of units (mm vs inches vs centimeters vs ft) . Most programs will import/export in whatever units you have them programmed to in your settings, so if you haven’t modified them yourself, they are probably at the default values, and may not match the units for the file you are trying to import.

You’d think. But the fusion 360 SVG issue has been around for ages and according to autodesk, it’s everyone else’s fault not theirs.

What are you trying accomplish? Just add in your own flavor? Inkscape works wonderfully with svgs!!! I am not an expert but i get around with it.

I am not, nor will i be an autodesk fan! I use freecad (just a startet on it though) and it also works with svg.

The actual strut length should be .5mm less than what you put in the generator. So if you told the generator 800mm for your strut the SVG should be at 799.5mm. With that it’s usually pretty easy to scale like mike shows in fusion

Trying to wrap my head around this conversion and than scaling. Seems it’s not just Autodesk, I opened it in mastercam at work and it’s a bit wonky.
Let’s say the size I want is 48.875 for both x and y.
That’s 1241.4 mm that means my overall length for the struts should be 1409.375mm ( roughly 55 inches)?
What’ should be the hole to hole in the vertical on the strut plates, that should be the same no matter what size.

For what it’s worth, I imported the vector76 SVG into (free) Inkscape, then saved as DXF and it imported into Fusion correctly. I did not have to do any weird numeric entry magic. (I also went down the same rabbit hole trying to get fusion to import the right size, silly…)

The reason I did that was to mock up my LR3 cutting area and make sure it fit diagonally to cut, before I output the final rotated DXF from Fusion… into estlcam.

Tried this and is working fine. Thx!

Yeah, that’s what I also do. :slightly_smiling_face:
