Smoking Meat

Hahaha I think the pork butt weighed more that him.
He is a little mooch for sure.
Thanks for that I literally burst out laughing.

My pleasure! I couldn’t help myself, though…seeing the dog in the picture salivating over all the meat on the counter, I could only picture the aftermath if he had gotten into it when your back was turned. I am seriously jealous of you all that have the ability to smoke some meat. I have looked into it, but just not in my budget at the moment with building out my new shop, and trying to get everything to build an LR3, and needing a new front tire on the Harley, and wanting to get a sawmill, and…

My dog’s mouth is counter-height. We watch him very closely when preparing meals.

Yea, when we had dogs, they weren’t allowed in the kitchen. Both could easily get stuff off the counter, the big guy could get stuff off the top of the fridge.

Sigh. The cat gets stuff out of the backs of the cupboards… from inside closed containers. She hasn’t learned to open the refrigerator yet… or open the tinned cat food, thank heaven.

It’s something I love very much!! Just cooking and bbq brings ppl together and everyone is happy etc.
you don’t need to get fancy but I totally understand the prioritize situation. Sounds like you have lots of your plate. (Pun intended)
I just love building things too so I think I ended up spending like 300.00 on it.

There is some cheap easy ones that also work great.
They are called THE UGLY DRUM SMOKER
Just uses a old fuel drum burnt out.
Some bolts and a couple round grills.

This is a example off the internet.

Like it!! Yeah, I can see the love as I do the cooking in the house. It is a good feeling to see smiles and happiness around the “breaking of bread!!”

I may have to look into that contraption there. I think I can get a barrel (not sure about the lid though) for rather cheap. May have to burn a lot in it to get it “cleaned out” but I could do something like that!!

If you can find a drum that was previously used to used cooking oil or something food-ish, it’d be best. Some chemicals won’t leave a barrel no matter how much you burn it.

Used to be able to get a new barrel uncoated on inside for $60 a decade ago - not sure what prices are now. The one pic’d above looks pretty DIY, but there’s a pretty good kit avail from DIY Drum Smoker Kit & Parts Highly recommend the ‘ash catcher’ pizza pan add on, makes post cook cleanout dramatically easier.

That’s great to hear! Pellet grills are very versatile and can make cooking a lot easier. It sounds like you’ve been experimenting with a variety of foods, which is a great way to learn how to use your new grill. If you’re interested in making a meatloaf recipe on your new pellet grill, it’s definitely possible! You can use your favorite meatloaf recipe and shape it into a loaf shape, then place it on a greased or lined tray or pan. Set your pellet grill to a temperature of 350°F and cook the meatloaf for about an hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F. You can also add some wood pellets for added flavor, such as hickory or mesquite.

BTW. Smoking pork ribs can take some practice, so don’t worry if your first cook didn’t turn out exactly as expected. With more experience, you’ll likely improve your results.

Nice bark !!

Not really used for smoking (not by me at least), but this Weber propane grill followed me home on Sunday.

Our neighbors recently moved and we were at their new house celebrating a birthday party. This grill was left by the previous owner. My friend already has a grill, so he offered it to me. I couldn’t argue with the price, so we loaded it into the truck and I brought it home.

I cleaned it up and ordered a regulator for it. I’ll probably replace the grates.

Anything is always better when its Free.99

That’s awesome I have my Webber natural gas one and love it. If the old owner never registered it I believe you may be able to get the warranty. I believe it’s life time on Webber.

Well I cleaned up and dragged out my pellet smoker for a friends party. Started at 5am and managed to have it ready for 630. It was good always a bit dry on the flat of the brisket. They look small in the picture bc the bbq is pretty big. I can do whole hogs in there and when I built it I was inside welding.
It turned out great held temps solid kept it below 300. And went through 3 bags of pellets.

I’m wanting to convert my offset to a pellet smoker. Did you buy the hopper/controller as a kit?

Child + Home Depot bucket = solution. May need PID adjustments from time to time.

Mine is a old pellet stove for a house I bought that was broken. And just used the parts to make it have a stoker fan. You can get those hog ones that I think are good. I have a inkbird pid controller I was going to add in but never got to finishing that one up.
There is also these gravity feed charcoal ones now too.

Little baby back ribs for dinner

221 method. They fell apart when I took them out of the pan with apple juice. Extremely tender
