Skr pro vs jackpot wirelessly?

after doing all the research on jackpot , fludin nc and thought i had it all sorted , was checking my order to find out where it is in transit , and seen that ive ordered the skr by mistake.( im dealing with severe concussion so things take twice as long to compute theses days), some of the q may sound dumb and stupid, things id never of asked in the past
so heads now spinning out re the boards
is there a topic somewhere that i can try get my head round the differences
Q:
can the skr be run wirelessly, via wifi or do i need to add parts to the board to get wifi , if i need a part is there a link to what part i need
where does the screen fit on the v4 when its running,
v3 and v4 boards fit in different spots ?
is the skr a lot more complexed to wire up ? or is it just me
marlin compared to fluid , is marlin easy to understand etc
as i said dumb assed questions , and by reading 100s post just blows my mind more.
or should i just litterlily bin the skr and get a jackpot to save my sanity

This is my own opinion, your mileage may vary, disclaimer, disclaimer, etc.

Go Jackpot and don’t look back. Can you return the SKR?

There’s a ton of threads discussing the differences (here is one…). I’m not an expert on the Jackpot/FluidNC, but I’ll try to summarize a few points…

  • SKR runs Marlin, Jackpot runs FluidNC
  • Marlin is primarily a 3D print language, adapted for CNC, while FluidNC was more designed for CNC natively
  • SKR is more expensive, also requires an LCD (or addirtional ESP01S module, see below)
  • Marlin is a bit more complex to change configuration (see below), but many parameters can be set using g-code.
  • The g-code commands are a bit different for some functions between Marlin and FluidNC

Yes, it can be run wirelessly (headless), but yes, you need to add hardware (ESP01S). Jackpot (FluidNC) comes with the Wifi module as part of the package

I think at this point that @vicious1 hasn’t developed the screen housing yet, but he has promised to do so in the near future.

AFAIK, wiring is about the same complexity between boards

Depends - if you are already familiar with Marlin from 3D printing, then there isn’t a steep learning curve. Fluid/Jackpot does allow for changing the config much easier, as it is just editing a text file, rather than having to compile new firmware each time.

Many people prefer the Jackpot, although the SKR is also fine to use. Did you buy the board from V1E? If so, maybe you could contact Ryan and ask if you could exchange the boards…?

thanks for the info , no not familiar with marlin , hence why i meant to buy the jackpot,
bugger on the housing part, guess that will put a hold on my build.
sending it back could be an option but logistically and the cost to send back and refund difference in boards etc prob, not worth it.

If you have, or want to get, a raspberry pi you can also add it to your skr to get wifi control much like a jackpot. It’s a bit more configuration initially but once it’s set up it’s very flexible.

Or, you can buy a $7 ESP-01S like the one Ryan used to sell and load it with a similar web UI to what the Jackpot boards are using.
