SKR Pro 1.2, 2209 drivers, stepper humming noise

How much (if any) noise should I be expecting from idle stepper motors run by 2209 drivers/UART?

I just finished my new Primo build, using SKR Pro 1.2 kit from V1 with the included 2209 drivers and the TFT. Got the wiring set up last night, and worked out all of the kinks (no printer attached, backward stepper cables, limit switches being ignored, etc), to my satisfaction.

However the steppers, when energized (but idle) emit a sustained, soft whoosh/whirring noise. A bit abstract here for lack of audio recording, but the pitch/volume of the noise almost reminds me of water running through pipe… Note that it is not a high pitched squeal that I see described when people have their driver running too much current through.

It’s really not too obscene of a noise, I am only drawing concern because I pulled these exact steppers off of my Burly/DRV8825 build, and they were nearly silent.

Mine “sing” quite a bit since upgrading to the SKR Pro 1.2 from the Rambo. With the Rambo, no noise at all, but now they make the noise you describe when the steppers are energized. Everything seems to be working fine though, so I’m not too concerned.

Ok, good to hear… I tried to see if the drivers were overheating by aggressively cycling XY moves for a few minutes…nada. I guess the real test will be on a 4 hour carve. Liking this board so far, at first it was giving me fits with a few things but everything kind of fell into place after some tinkering. Turns out you need to plug pins into correct spots for it to function properly.

Thanks

Enable stealthchop should fix that
