Showcase behind window

I’d like to put a showcase behind my window of the shop to present the goods to passer-bys (there are not many, but I think it’s cool to have a window…). Does anyone have a good idea how to do that?
I need some sort of shelf with a backwall, I want to be able to screw down my skateboard holder and put the rest of my stuff in the window. I have some ideas, but I haven’t had the idea…
It also should not be higher than 1.5m so I can still look over it and see what’s going on outside. Any ideas appreciated. Or nearly any. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe sth like this:

Ok then, let’s test that…

@Tokoloshe you’ve worked on many cool projects, and captured the CNC/fabrication process for quite a few. Would you like to put a tablet/monitor on display that cycles through a gallery of your work? For example, something like…

Yeah, brilliant idea as well. A monitor that plays selected videos. But that’s step B, first I need a shelf.

What’s the surrounding area/shop’s aesthetic, what style are you looking to compliment (or contrast)? Looking for gratuitous LED edge lit acrylic contemporary floating tensegrity shelving, or, fine woodworking flex with intricate inlays, and impossible dovetail joinery, or, something else(s)?

It’s a 80cm window, 2m high (I am rougly guessing here), with drapes behind it. So it would be a shelf like 20 or 25cm deep, ideally glass with a wooden backwall. I think I might need to construct something myself.

I’d take a “minimum viable product” approach here. Slap some plywood (or rigid foam) together, paint it a neutral color, and dress it up with fabric or other decorative elements when you install the displayed items. Switch it around a bit each time you swap new stuff in. Changing the display periodically will catch the eyes of passers by.

That was what got my brain going: I am going to make a French Cleat wall for it including shelves etc. Then I can easily change those if I need more height etc. Thanks!

Rummaging through my shop I found this board:

It’s a great size, was cheaper than any other wood I can find and I can easily use it later if I only screw in the French Cleat at the sides. Also, it looks woodshop-y. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Going to sand it a bit before that. :face_savoring_food:

If you don’t have any security worries - it’s always nice to be able to see into the workspace behind - mess or not, people will get a sense that this is a studio - particularly with your lovely display and French cleat setup. You don’t have to feature your workshop, just give people a sense that it’s there.

The window display is the foreground so do get some lighting on it - just some el cheapo LED’s - even strip lights mounted with some direction.

I’ll second @azab2c 's thoughts on a monitor too.

Yeah, that’s in the works as well, thanks. I assembled three of the shelves so far but now I have to go to bed. Will post pictures tomorrow.

I should have an old dual boot tablet which absolutely sucks, maybe that can play videos. I will figure something out. Maybe. It’s not that the street would be bustling with people, but you know.

@Tokoloshe , did I miss your thread talking about getting a Public workspace? Nice!

Nah, just thinking about how to utilise my windows best. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Kind of happy how it turned out.

It’s missing pricing, website etc, but that’s for tomorrow. :slightly_smiling_face:

Does anyone know some good LED strips with a timer that you can program?

any ws2811/2812/2815 or rgbw(w) leds with an esp32 (or esp8266) with WLED

Lets you use a chosen color per LED, a pattern, and timer

That sounds like I have to program something? I think I have another ESP lying around. Any pointers to a good tutorial?
