I made these the same way, just with bullet pixels.
Thesewere made with ws2812 pixels connected to an esp8266 and driven by FPP
Sticker arrived, also finished the maze game… Now my space is all used up… ![]()
LEDs next. ![]()
Also, stickers came in:
And it’s done! Since the window is really visible from the street I am not normally going to make it that bright normally as not to disturb the traffic too much.

@vicious1 Did you disable the gallery plugin? I wanted to make a gallery out of it. ![]()
To all the LED guys: The power brick is now plugged in 24/7, can I do that? Or should I get a timer for the brick as well? Will the WLED ESP keep the settings and know what time it is if I did that?
I haven’t messed with the gallery.
That window display look amazing!!!
I would say the brick should be fine as long as it is able to provide more power than is needed (it is not currently super hot).
Hmm, it somehow isn’t enabled any more. You were able to group pictures together in a gallery, it actually did it automatically on four or more pictures, it’s a plugin I think. Not the gallery gallery. ![]()
It’s not uploaded as a gallery…
Just shrunk the pics… ![]()
Try adding the lowrider-cnc tag. I only see gallery-lowrider-cnc and gallery-mpcnc.
I don’t mean that gallery. ![]()
Great seasonal window display. Intense colors. Good luck with keeping up with demand and your Christmas items in stock for sale ![]()
Do you mean [ grid ] markup like this…
[grid]

[/grid]
For this effect ?
I might. Testing tomorrow. Thanks Aza. ![]()
Nice work, but I do think the coloured lighting takes away from the timber colour - give some thought to running some coloured back lighting - mount some strips sideways on the back of the slab, and keeping the main light a warm white to emphasise the warmth of the timber (just as the smart butchers do with meat!).
I’d be happy if someone with real knowledge corrects me (@jono035 ? ), but yeah, my understanding is if there’s no current coming out, there’s none going in. Not sure about the settings - they seem OK for me after a long break, but I have “reset” them a couple of times accidentally.
That’s how I’ve set up the display cases for my puppet collection too. BTW, here I’ve printed some angled mounts for the led strips so they are pretty much focussed in the centre of the display - you don’t have enough depth to do that, but flooding it as you have done is great.
Yeah, mostly. There’s always some current consumption due to the filtering components on the input and also the power supply will use a little bit keeping the output up. Most decent power supplies have a spec for that list somewhere, usually between 0.3W and 2W usually, so likely a few $ a year. That and the power for the ESP32 if that’s what’s controlling everything.
On the other hand, whatever timer you use will have some form of power draw as well, so it’s 50/50.
Beyond that, the power supply will ‘probably’ last less time if it’s on 24/7 due to more chances of seeing surges/EFTs and other stress on components, but probably not by enough to be meaningful. Some things survive longer if they’re thermally cycled less and left on, for instance.
So yeah, probably a toss up, assuming the power supply is a decent one.
Thanks for the tips, I have the lights set to white-ish with a little hint of yellow.
I went through all of the options with the kids and had some fun, but most of the animations are just too hectic. There es a nice one that has a beech feeling and only moves a little which is nice. Might use that some time. ![]()
Great idea, and the end realization of the project came out great!! Good work
that coffin board looks more better every time I see it.
Is this a window in your workshop, or do you have a small storefront somewhere too?
I’m firmly residential, but have toyed with the idea of finding a small shop in our downtown area and turning it into a custom engraving workshop, and studio, but after spending 8 months tracking down permits and figuring out who owned the perfect place, someone undercut me and opened up an ice-cream shop in the space. Now it’s reasoned to food, rent is 3x compared to what it was, despite that company going out of business after 6 months.
It’s a window in my shop. It’s basically just there for my ego, though I did sell something out of it already. ![]()
Awesome buddy!
