SD Card will not initialize

Glad that it worked!

@vicious1 - I’ll be curious what you find on the returned/bad Jackpot.

I will also be interested to learn what the issue with the card turns out to be.
I learned a lot during the trouble shooting phase.

The USB port on the esp32 was mostly disconnected, it looks to have been folder down at one point and the top layer is partially delaminated. I swapped it out and everything works fine.

That’s a real weak point on these boards. Can you ask the manufacturer to lay down a fillet of expoxy along the two sides (e.g. not on the solder part or the connector face, but either side)

This would go a long way towards not breaking them.

Gentlemen:

I am trying to learn here, I am confused. The issue I was having was with it not reading the SD Card slot on the Jackpot. The issue you have identified is with the esp32 card. Are the two connected, I was able to flash the Jackpot with the USB connecter on the esp32.
Thank you

Yes, the broken USB port ripped traces off the board so it knocked out the pin needed for reading the jackpot sd.

Import taxes has gone up already so I will not be offering V1 ESP’s any longer. When my current inventory runs out I will just include genuine 4mb espressif boards. Although I am sure the cheapie boards will work now as well.

:poop:

So you are saying I’m in possession of some potentially very expensive, mint condition collector’s items??

Yup.

They already cost me $1.50 or so more than the genuine, plus the time to order them. Now for some reason every single order is getting hit with an extra 35%, so the last two batches cost me like $16 each.

Genuine are $10-$10.50

They did start off like $0.50 cheaper for mine.

I have 100 units sitting at elecrow that I have not put up for sale yet, and maybe 40 left here.

How about a hand-soldered full size through hole component version

Like the old clear plastic phones lol

DIY Board…I’m in.

It could double as the strut plate

That may still be an option. I love having the extra CP2102 IO available. I’d pay extra to keep getting these.

Hopefully that option remains available worldwide?

Ooh that sounds fun! I just checked on the cost of a PCB the size of my strut plates… NOPE!

I am not sure yet. The details are still not finalized.

This really stinks!!! This means EVERYTHING!!! Is going to go up!

Sorry Ryan!!

I’m not sure exactly what changed in November but I think it was deminimus laws. Every single one of my imported orders now has a 30% import tax, 5% service fee, and One company adds a $20-30 processing fee.

The last 9 years this was never an issue other than the larger full pallet orders.

I am working on a new solution for some of this. More details if it all gets worked out.

It might have something to do with the tariffs that the new government announced? Obviously companies will be passing that on to their customers and while they are at it, they can start doing it earlier than they actually go into effect?

new government stuff shouldn’t really affect anything until officially in office.

I think he’s referring to this Executive Action

“Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is taking new actions to enforce our laws and protect American consumers, workers, and businesses by addressing the significant increased abuse of the de minimis exemption, in particular China-founded e-commerce platforms, and strengthening efforts to target and block shipments that violate U.S. laws.”
