In my table top version, I sandwiched 3 pieces of ply to make a deep recess for the leds. I like using glass under the sand to get a flat and rigid surface for the ball to ride on and the magnet to fly under.

ZenXY table legs

The legs are screwed and glued here. [Screenshot 2022-06-17 165932] The glass sits directly on that, the wood above that is just a 1/2" x 1/2" frame that the next glass sits on. Under it is just a strip to mount to. [PXL_20220618_000050081]
