Nothing is as wrong as cold feet in the sauna ![]()
Hi, love your Sauna! I’m part way through building myself one at home and just found a quite worrying thread about the use of OSB for sauna construction and its potential for harmful off-gassing. I assumed it would be okay if it was behind the foil vapour barrier but the article says not? Any thoughts? I’d really rather not have to rip off all the OSB sheathing!
Thank you!
Huber claims AdvanTech does not off gas anything dangerous…That being said I’m sure it off gasses something. If it takes you several months like me to build the sauna it will naturally air out mostly in sun. When sauna is in use the interior vapor barrier (as you point out) should reflect the heat back and prevent the gas coming in. I also have the interior paneling on 1” furring strips to prevent any direct contact issues. And finally in a sauna build the walls should breath to the outside…
AdvanTech is technically not OSB but more in the category of engineered wood so it’s rated Structural 1 and speced for use in heated floors.
Anyway, I’ll check back in to confirm proof of life in 100 years.
That’s so cool nice work !!! What a project
