Poor Surface Finish, Stuttering

Hey guys, first cuts on my MPCNC, using a rambo, running fusion360 CAM, V1Pi using CNCjs for control.

When cutting faster, curves stutter and look like crap. I read something about junction deviation?

This is running at 60ipm, 1/4in DOC, in MDF, with a downcut 2 flute endmill.

Also is there a better way then zip ties to tighten the belts? It seem like lots of slop comes from there.

Thanks!

Add a second zip tie around the first to squish it. Keeps the sides straight so they don’t spring. It’s too easy to over tighten the belts with other kinds of belt tighteners.

25mm/s is extremely fast for MDF at that depth with a down cutting bit.

Milling basics puts you at 8-12mm/s, in soft wood.

Also a finishing pass would clean those cuts up just fine.

Does it stutter or shake when you try air cutting? or only when it’s cutting under load? You are probably exceeding the limits of the machine at 25mm/s.

See I would think it would be load, but I was cutting at 120ipm 1/8in DOC , perfect in the straightaways, but glitchy in the corners, it’s def firmware related. I will slow it down for surface finish, but still need to fix this glitch.

Tomorrow I will try a up-cut, running slower with same DOC, does junction deviation have something to do with the movement on arcs?

Turn it off (or double the entered value) and let us know. One other person saw issues on very small arcs.

Ok, I think its just the acceleration curve? This is a 3D toolpath in foam. Junction deviation hasn’t been messed with yet.

I’ll try this next Ryan
