New MPCNC for 2020! - Primo -

So I just heard about MPCNC a couple of weeks ago and was all psyched to build it, but everything is sold out (the parts bundle, specifically). I was planning on printing the printable parts myself. So what in the parts list or other stuff should I, or can I buy, individually that can carry over to this new one coming out?

Router, motors, and what else? Thanks!

Pretty much everything on the current build will carry over. You’ll just need new plastic bits.

How about the 1 1/4. 5/16 bolt? I didn’t try themI used 1 1/2 inch

I think it’s mostly 1.5" bolts now. I can’t remember now, I know I went to the hardware store to pick some up, and got the wrong size. I had to get new ones because I didn’t have the right size when I did the mpcnc so I cut a bunch of longer bolts down. I buy bolts by the pound, so I tend to have a bunch on hand most of the time.

Yea, I misspoke, they’re 1.5" now. I forgot the burley and before used 1.25".

I’d probably lean toward cubic infill. Via YouTube, CNC Kitchen has run some perpendicular tests on the various infill patterns, impact to strength, and print time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upELI0HmzHc

I still a big fan of Gyroid… less material, about the same printing time as rectilinear (with less infill %) and just strong.

And what else? Don’t forget the M5…no more #6-32

Sorry to be late to the party, but does anyone else think that the Makita router is a sexy little number? Sort of a rose between the thorns. I think that every time I take her out of the tool holder. One of those designs that just seems so simplistic and perfect. All of mine have proved to be such gems.

I have the cordless version of this, and it is a great little trim router. I wish I could use it more.

Shu, I did not know they made a cordless version. Had to google it. Looks like the same body. I guess its a bit dodgy to rely on a cordless tool in a CNC application. Nothing worse then finding out you used the wrong battery half way through a job.

My preference (based entirely on visuals) is Spindle, Dewalt (611?), the Makita, and lastly that ugly as can be Dewalt 660.

One of these days I will upgrade to a good spindle.

I have to agree, that 660 does look like the ugly duckling. I have a water cooled 2.2kw router on my small CNC which is super elegant and simple. It is also blissfully quiet in comparison but the water tubes make it too cumbersome to use on my large MPCNC. Downside is its HEAVY at about 7Kg compared to the Makita’s approx 2-3Kg. Using Headphones if standing next to any of the electric units for any length of time is a prerequisite with all of them. The Router in one ear and the vacuum cleaner pounding in the other. Not sure which gives the worse headache, that or the home brew cider.

FWIW, the 660, as goofy as it looks, performs great.

I hope so. hopefully I’ll be testing mine out tonight or tomorrow. Assuming the pen tests work out. I still have some final assembly left that I left before the fatigue monster wrecked something.

Does anybody know what the horse power of the 660 motor? Can’t seem to find it anywhere. I guess my main question is which has more HP? 660 or 611?

Use the Wattage instead for electric. Higher watts = higher HP.

The 611 is over 200 watts more than the 660 so more powerful.

To approximate HP divide the wattage by 746.

Interesting. Why is there 660 the overall recommended hardware? Is it because of the weight difference?

Weight and smaller diameter, which keeps it closer to the Z rails, minimizing forces that would push it out of vertical while cutting.

And price vs performance. comes with 1/4 and 1/8 collets. Brushes are cheap and easy to replace. You can not find anything close at this price…and this is a name brand so you can return it if you have issues.
