New MPCNC for 2020! - Primo -

New version only.

The calculator for the current version should be a real close approximation. 2x each axis length…that is a giant build a little smaller would be a better size. You might be better off with a lowrider.

CF petg seems to be a better option than both regular petg and PLA for stiffness and temperature resistance. Had anyone tried it for their mpcnc? It’s the go to for the PrintNC. No pretty colors though. Just black.

If that’s your bag, go for it. But my guess is that Ryan’s replying right now, saying the design is for PLA, for maximum usability (PLA is still easier/cheaper to get).

edit: Jumped the gun… I think someone has printed some parts in it, but I don’t know if it was significantly better off the print bed. Long term, we’ll have to see. PLA is cheap enough to print a new part if something breaks.

Sound interesting. Can you link some tests to shows it properties vs PLA?
Primo is overkill so pretty much any plastic will work with the only vital piece being the Core. If that material proves better than that one 1/2kg core part is where I would use it, the rest can use anything.

One 1/2 kg part? How long does that thing take to print?

Cripes, I’ll have to get a .6mm nozzle before I even think about upgrading to a Primo…

0.5mm nozzle, 12 hrs, printing slow. I think I have printed at least 5 protoypes this week

22 hours with a .4mm nozzle at .2 layers.

OK, that makes it easier to finish up my Burly build and play with it awhile before looking at the Primo… :slight_smile:

The biggest downside to that…is if it fails most of the way through, you just lost half a roll of filament!

What infill percentage and how many perimeters? I print the MPCNC parts at 60% with 4 perimeters, so I am curious to know how much time its going to take for that part (and if its more than 1/2 a kg with those settings)

That’s not too bad. I think some of the Burly print jobs (albeit multiple parts) were similar when I printed it.

What part of LA? I’m a displaced Texan living in Louisiana (but I’ve now lived here 3 times longer than I lived in Texas).

Born and raised in New Orleans, married and divorced in Ruston (I-20 between Monroe and Shreveport), then off to the other coasts (2yrs in NYC, 7yrs in L.A.), now in the middle of the country (IA).

FWIW, my mom was born in Midland, before Murphy Oil moved my grandfather to New Orleans to be closer to the Gulf oil fields (he was a geologist).

How close are you to release (some) parts for printing? Considering that it will probably take me a couple of weeks to print, I would love to start as soon as possible… and I am pretty sure I am not alone :wink:

Last info he gave was that he is very close but found some issues and have to re-test a new set of center parts.

IIRC, there’s one complete non-V1 beta build, and several beta printers/testers. Much happier with Ryan finding issues now rather than after I burn through a few spools of filament…

Ryan Do you have any idea of ​​a date to start dropping the pieces? from what I read the project is almost ready.
I bought a kit from mpcnc and this one to get the electronics, I would like to be able to start printing at least some parts, what do you think of releasing the parts that would not need adjustments, like
probably the bottom parts and the xy carts.

Of course you are right and he will probably release a full set only and not some parts in advance which are 100% already. Gotta be patient…

I can’t really say. This last part takes a solid 12 hours for me to print, then at least an hour of testing, any CAD revisions and then start another print. So until I have a good build and the the testers have theirs built I really don’t know. Two days ago I thought I might have to back out of it until I had a proper solution…well the tests this morning were very promising. The corners and feet are solid but there is no point in releasing them until it is complete as the hardware changes.

Just got off the phone with the nuts and bolts guys and they are finally getting started on a large order for me, I just received a smaller test order.

Unfortunately the bigger this project gets the slower things are. 5 years back I released parts willy nilly…now I have to get supplies, and prepare to make instructions and all the other stuff that is not as fun for me as CAD and assembly.
