New MPCNC for 2020! - Primo -

So is there a MPCNC Discord?

I defer to @vicious1, as this is his baby, and he works hard to keep as many of us as happy as we can be, but I do have one question I’ll pose.

While I know it would add some complexity in sourcing materials, do the Z tubes have to be the same diameter as the X/Y tubes? If that’s what’s making the gantry too big, use 3/4" there. Every store I’ve been to that sells conduit (I’m in the US midwest) stocks shorter lengths than 10’ or will cut to length and sell by the foot.

There is. It is a ghost town though.

Well that isn’t helpful lol - about the discord

When I bought 3/4’’ conduit, it came in 5’ lengths at my local HD.

Also, anyone have any luck mounting a Ridgid R2401 router? I was thinking about getting the Dewalt DWP611 bracket printed because they look similar but I figured i’d ask.

First, thank you all for weighing in. I love it.

Interesting…very interesting. I have to open CAD, I am not sure how the Core will treat that. That could solve the tool mount issue, and it could actually be stronger (keeps the tool in closer). Lots of coulds, I will look into it.

The link WAS at the top of the page, but all the links are gone. All the settings are still there but…I will look into it.

I think this is the discord channel (wrong link was included, only worked for people who had already joined I think).

Working on it, all the links are gone from the top bar.

That link doesn’t seem to do anything

The forums are really very active, and the data is better organized here. I think that’s why the discord isn’t terribly popular.

This thread is very much what I would picture discord could’ve been like…Is ut for better or worse that everything is logged?

I guess I’ll weigh in, I was waiting on the 23.5 version since I already had a bunch of 3/4 laying around. I Iike the new corners and feet of the primo since I’m one of those monsters who over-tightens and breaks plastic getting things just right.

I’m fine either way, I was planning to build a primo to become the carving/router and put a laser on the 23.5 burly. So if there is no 23.5 version I’ll see what I can find for 1" sticks. Thanks for the great machine!

I was secretly hoping I could put Primo feet and corners in to fix and beef up my slightly broken 23.5 Burly.

I thought about suggesting the same thing yesterday but I assumed you were keeping everything the same size for a reason.

I can’t wait to get started on a build but I’m holding off on ordering until the Rambo 1.4 boards are in stock… is there any news on when they’ll arrive?

Or should I just order without the board and figure that out separate once I build the frame…

I just want to get started!

They are more than a week out. I was told I will be getting my next order staggered as well so, one box at a time for a while.

I’ll keep refreshing

Zut alors! He has emerged!

Aluminum is both more rigid and softer. The softer part far outweighs the rigidity part though because the softer surface means you will have to replace the tubes pretty often. The bearings that roll on the surface wears that surface down quickly if it’s much softer than the mild steel used in EMT conduit. I don’t have real numbers, but based on the speed in which the bearings wear coatings I’d expect aluminum to only last a few days at most before you would see wobbling.

This orientation can’t be right, can it? Makita Tool Holder.

I flipped it to a flat position in the slicer. Hope that’s right.
